Sky Elves

Wanderers of the Skies above

“Life is hard, but together, we are stronger. There will be many trials, many tribulations, but we shall overcome them.”
-Anonymous Sky Elven Elder.   The Sky Elves of Dasht-e Zerrin are truly a subset of Glass Elves. Far less vibrant than their glossy cousins, the Sky Elves are far more communal and welcoming than the Glass Elves. Living in floating villages that make circuits around Aashan and neutral lands, they have harnessed Astral magics to become nigh unparalleled enchanters throughout the lands. But good luck finding one of their villages, for they are wary of sharing those locations and harness their abilities with enchanting to hide their villages from view, their small size forcing them to avoid large confrontations.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Sky Elves, like their Glass cousins, share a similar anatomy to Aashan humans, though they have differences to both. The most prominent difference between Sky and Glass Elves is the lack of a crystalline second skin on the Sky Elves. While sharing the long pointed ears, Sky Elves range primarily in pale/unpigmented hair and skin colors. Like Glass Elves, their skeletal structure is slightly lighter and partially hollow compared to the Aashan and their eyes come in a solid single color rather than different colors for sclera, iris and pupil seen in Aashan.

Genetics and Reproduction

Their method of reproduction is exactly the same as Aashan human and Glass Elves. There is fairly significant inbreeding due to their small village sizes though, with crossing family trees in Sky Elven villages.

Growth Rate & Stages

With less nuances in growth compared to their Glass cousins, Sky Elves reach physical maturity at the same time: 25. Sky Elves are only considered adults when they have reached around 35 years of age(give or take some depending on village). Year 125 is around middle age for Sky Elven society.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Omnivorous. Will eat meat when possible, but tend to have plant based diets due to resource availability.

Additional Information

Social Structure

The bulk of Sky Elven society is seen in fairly small villages through the world, headed by a council of elders. The rest of the society holds around the same amount of social standing, with skilled enchanters held in a bit higher regard due to their role in keeping the villages safe. The elders have a head elder, who participates in the Council of councils once every five years, where the villages meet up in a secret location and exchange with eachother.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Weaker enchanted equipment and Glass Elven crops are the primary exports of the Sky Elves

Facial characteristics

Elfin, pointed ears, sharp faced

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Primarily organized around Jivanian(Aashan) lands, in the airs above, out of sight, out of mind.

Average Intelligence

Above average, education serves as very important part of Sky Elven culture to show that the outcasts can do it to.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Good vision and hearing, with a lack of smell, average touch when compared to Aashan

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

See Aashan traditions, as much culture is borrowed from the Aashan.

Beauty Ideals

Though not prioritized as a core tenet of culture, beauty is still important for the Sky Elves. One of the biggest sins for Sky Elves is to mar their ears, which is often used as a form of punishment for those who have committed unforgivable crimes. However, the rest follows after a beauty in simplicity. They have their own set of more exposing clothing, like their Glass cousins, but the clothes are simply of finer qualities rather than embroidered and gaudy.

Gender Ideals

Women are expected to bear children, with a big emphasis on fertility for women and virility for men, as the race is small due to pressure by the Glass Elves. Thus it needs to grow to survive. Otherwise, there isn’t much more.

Courtship Ideals

Sky Elves practice fairly loose pre marriage practices compared to the Aashan. Couples are encouraged to test their relationship before forming a permanent bond to be true to one another for the rest of their life.

Relationship Ideals

Young Sky Elves are encouraged to be more promiscuous and active, but are encouraged to find their forever partner by the time they reach middle age. There’s plenty of time for that.

Common Dress Code

Sky Elven dress goes between Aashan and Glass Elven dress. Clearly meant to emphasize their physical beauty(curves, muscles), Sky Elven dress often comes far more covering than Glass Elves. It doesn’t maximize exposure of their beauty, but it clearly emphasizes.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

The Sky villages are home, but community and reproduction are pushed to the highest regards, followed closely by knowledge, with the three intertwining many times.

History

Shortly after the creation of the Glass Elves, a defect began to appear. These defective Glass Elves lacked the glossy outercoat of their brethren, likewise lacking the connection to the natural magics of the Glass Elves. By the time The progenitor saints discovered these defective individuals in the third generation, many had already been born. In fact, this would be the reason for the stringent, eugenic, perfectionism Glass Elves face at birth. The inherent magics, and amber layer of Glassite are just that crucial to the race. The purge of the common birth defect continues to this day. Luckily the first bunch of the third generation was able to escape as many had grown before the purge was ordered. Some of the more studious individuals managed to harness the secrets of the Glass Elves to create the floating cities of the Sky Elves, weaving enchantments to replicate the magics that let them soar through the sky. The Sky Elven cities have no anchors, traveling to and fro on set paths. The Sky Elves created these flying village-cities on enchantments, and have replicated many of the Glass Elven magics through enchantment, growing and producing many things the Glass Elves have. Some of the magics of the Glass Elves have not been replicated though, primarily those that require massive foci such as magical beast summoning, as well as certain magical spells that the Sky Elves view as representing the Glass Elves as the race moves to distance themselves from their past.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Glass Elves
  • Very hated. Very. Hated. The betrayers of their gifts and the great evil
  • Meetings can be violent very fast.
Naga
  • Extremely dangerous, be wary. Likely to enslave, as Sky Elves maintain beauty for quite some time. Sky Elves are valuable in the Slave Trade for sure.
Aashan
  • An allied race, but highly variable. Be cautious. Primarily, in the cities, will be friendly. Outside, be more cautious
Hecklin
  • They… are crazy. Very crazy, but knowledgable. If they were more open to sharing, it would be great for the exchange. The rifles would be amazing to produce for defense.
Rakshi
  • Dangerous. The ones found will often be dangerous gangsters. It’s a pity they are shunned so, but there are too many bad actors.
Sandling Sentinels
  • Sky Elves feel sorry for the Sandling Sentinels, seeing them as outcasts as well. However, due to their attachment to the Starfell Demon, Sky Elves are notably wary and some can be outright hostile to them, aiming to put them out of their unholy misery.
How others might see you:
  • Reclusive, strange, exotic
  • Where’s the glass?
  • Are these assholes like the glassy ones?
How you might see others:
  • Dangers lurk in every corner, every face, but a branch must be extended for the community to grow and flourish.
  • Be aware of your vulnerabilities, and look for those to trust
Why you might have become a Strider:
  • Inability to produce offspring will lead to more mobile, trade centric exploratory roles
  • Differences in outlook and crimes can lead to exile
Genetic Ancestor(s)
Lifespan
250+ years, give or take, outside of premature death from disease, war, or injury.
Average Height
2.1 - 3.0 meters
Average Weight
81 - 90 kilograms
Average Physique
Lithe and "dainty".
