The Penitent: The Red Recorder

General Summary

What follows is an After Action Report on the activities of The Penitent, offering a summary of a particular Intervention

The Missive

Recover the Red Recorder

Intervention Overview

Penitents Sennic, Oorah, Immeron and Kharasen were dispatched to Nelskrol, the artistic hub of Gattland. There, they made the acquaintance of their petitioner, Dame Jarolina Kresherkiln. She asked them to retrieve a musical instrument called the Red Recorder when had been stolen from her collection. The instrument is, of course, valuable, but its theft is also an embarrassment to Dame Kresherkiln. To do so, the Penitents gained the trust of some of Neskrol's underworld figures in the form of "Mother" Magdari and her "Kiddos." She informed them that she didn't take the recorder, but she knows who did--a collector known as The Fop. Tracing to Fop to his "museum" resulted in combat with the devil, who was surprisingly cordial in defeat. The Penitents then recovered the Red Recorder, returned it to Dame Kresherkiln, and took their leave.

Salient Details

  • One of the ways the Penitents gained access to "Mother" Magdari is via their victory in a Dance Battle. Results were mixed, but the Penitents still managed to impress those who watched.
  • In their search for the recorder, the Penitents came across the mysterious composer Ootraham Mikelschif, whom Oorah recognized as a distant kinfolk. He bade them visit him again sometime.
  • The Red Recorder is considered the finest expression of master reedmaker Clasa Alvartag’s work. Playing it revealed a relationship between Dame Kresherkiln and Maestra Alvartag.
