The Penitent: Dream Cleaning
General Summary
What follows is an After Action Report on the activities of The Penitent , offering a summary of a particular Intervention.
The Missive
Lube the LodestoneIntervention Overview
Penitents Doric, Sennic, and Immeron undertook an Intervention within Eldheim itself. As part of the condition of the Penitent using the Mead Hall at the End of/Beginning of Everything, Esastrov requests the Penitent to perform necessary maintenance on the Lodestone in the cellar. This Lodestone acts as a "magnet" of sorts for “noble travelers." The Lodestone is how those travelers find their way to Eldhiem—sort of a psychic lighthouse beckoning them to restful shores, or a dream magnet calling their yearnings and desires home. It has been a while since the Lodestone was last maintained and the latent psychic energy that is either emitted by it or comprises it (or both?) has started to accumulate. The Penitent are to descend into the cellar and apply “Cognitive Cream” to the Lodestone. The cellar is, of course, unstable. Like Eldheim, it constantly remakes itself as required, even if those requirements are strange and esoteric. Thus, the Penitent will need to seek out the Lodestone. Luckily, the Cognitive Cream will act as its own sort of magnet, helping them find the Lodestone. With this in mind, the Penitent entered the cellar of Eldheim. There, they navigated psychic constructs, such as dangerous traps and vengeful sorrow of unfulfilled promises made manifest. Along the way, they encountered Mashtun, a construct given form and function by Haesmer and devoted to the art of liquid fermentables. It agreed to accompany them on their travels and eventually found a place among the more permanent residents of Eldheim. The Lodestone itself was located within this psychic labyrinth and maintenance was undertaken. The Lodestone properly "lubed," the Penitent returned to Eldheim with the Intervention complete.Salient Details
- Before being dispatched on this Intervention, Doric, Sennic and Immeron dreamed. In that dream, they met Brelvonis. She conversed with each of the Penitents, but was there especially to talk with Immeron. She explained that he was free to leave the service of the Penitent whenever he wished. He may not like, however, where that leads him. After some consideration, Immeron decided to stay among the Penitent for now.
- There are some that call the act of Lodestone maintenance "Creaming the Cube." The rationale behind this phrase became apparent during the Intervention.
