Harmony Session 19: Goddamn Bugs Whacked Us, Johnny
General Summary
We return to The Suckhole Six just hours into their adventure through Ferrous Forest. After a gross battle with some native bloodsucking fauna that rendered Zoran completely shit-pantsed, Gorr took the lead and led their group deeper into the woods, confidently navigating the gigantic ironwood trees toward their quest. Evening soon came however, and our heroes enjoyed their first night under the thick canopy of heavy leaves and branches.
A Step in A Direction
When they awoke, they realized the comfortable bowl of earth Gorr had found for their campsite was actually a massive footprint. An investigation of the area revealed no other footprints, but a ring of conjuration magic, the school of teleportation spells, surrounded the small clearing. It would seem that rumors of "20-foot tall apelike creatures" may have been a little undersold though, as this footprint easily belonged to a creature likely twice that size. Gorr's navigation did stumble over the next few days and he ended up leading them into the heart of an acid ant hive. They were able to navigate cautiously enough to not disturb the creatures and soon came to an interesting set of Varduran ruins absolutely teeming with the housecat-sized ants. Our heroes debated trying to clear the infestation and investigate the ruins, but they were uncertain of their victory over the creatures. Thankfully, Zoran clambered out of his shit-pantsed stupor long enough to offer his sword for the battle, which was enough to convince the rest. After two exterminating fireballs from Enoch and a lot of exploding ants, the adventurers forced the creatures to retreat beneath the ruins. The ruins revealed themselves to be 3 massive and ornately carved doors that led to nowhere, whatever buildings they had served having been obliterated long ago. Two stone statues stood between the doors, one a humanoid female and the other bipedal but not human. The phrase "By Her Voice We Sing / Hers In Harmony" was found carved into these weather-beaten statues, as well as the Varduran rune repeated in relief. Some quick translations revealed that these magically-carved doors were storehouses that once held wheat, stone, and wood. Enoch even found a small cache of coins that made the effort a little more worth it. When Azarki found the entrance to the underground tunnel network, Gorr wild shaped into one of the acid ants and crawled in. The remaining Six rested while Gorr explored the massive tunnel system. Compelled by the hive-mind tinglies in his antennae, he eventually found himself in a massive egg-lined central chamber. Legions of the ants crawled all over the a hugely bulbous acid ant queen in a shield of teeming protection. Gorr realized that this ant complex likely stretched for miles all around them and any sort of extermination effort would likely require a military campaign. He returned to his companions.Deeper and Deeper
The Suckhole Six decided to not leave a bolt at this location and allowed the ants to reclaim the area. Gorr took the lead again, but this time with much less luck. He almost immediately got them lost but kept trekking forward, hoping to find his head before coming clean. Eventually though, everyone pretty much realized Gorr had gotten them lost and they hunkered down for the night. In the morning, Gorr turned into a spider and climbed up the massive trees and through the canopy. On his way, he found an extensive ecosystem of spiders and insects up in the huge branches of the trees that were effectively hanging over their heads at all times. He finally did emerge through the dense foliage, located the sun, and got as un-lost as he could with the new information. They soon headed out again, but were able to avoid anything too dangerous and make some good distance. They did have an opportunity to take on a nest of the blood-sucking mosquito things that greeted them when they first entered the forest, but declined to do so, at least for now.Rewards Granted
