Aluminium Material in Gates of Eternity | World Anvil

Aluminium

Aluminium is a rare Mundane Metal, considered a part of Noble Metals due to its enchantment reinforcement effect that makes all spells anchored into it approximately 75% stronger than those anchored in steel, while having a significantly high mana conductivity. It's low weight together with aforementioned buffs mades it a great (if costly) option to use in production of magical trinkets, jewelery and metal elements of magic catalysts.   It used to be on the level of platinum, however its effectiveness dropped by half (and then crawled to current 75% from 50%) during the Great Karadian War when a method of mass producing it was discovered. It was purposefully forgotten during the aftermath of the war, with great stores of aluminum disposed off to make its value improve. It's believed, however, that Imperium hid a significant stash of it (probably dozens of tonnes) just in case, which is a main reason for it to not return into its prior effectiveness.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Silvery white metal of low density, easy to work with. Lightweight, high magic conductivity.

Origin & Source

It is found in the so called aluminite rock formations, mostly being a very pure aluminium ore. It is, however, very rare and almost always exists as a small pockets (normally quite deep), yielding limited amount of the metal. Even inside the magical anomalies the situation is exactly the same, heavily limiting its output.

History & Usage

History

It was used for expensive magic trinket (and magic catalysts) production, at least since Early Empire Period, though it was much rarer than in later ages, coming almost only from magic anomalies. It's production (exclusively from aluminite ore) slowly improved overtime, until the Great Karadian War came. The sudden spike in technomagical prowess led to discovery of a different method of creating aluminium, probably from bauxite stones.   It was used to mass produce equipment, making it drop in quality due to the way magic works. It was only temporary, however. The technology was purposefully forgotten after this historical period ended, with most of the aluminium disposed off, as an element of a process of returning to pre-Great Karadian War state. Since then aluminium once again remains a rare metal used for enchanted objects.

Refinement

It requires smelting, but as a Common Metal it is a rather straithforward process.
