Pon Osni, the leader of the Skygazers

High Elder Pon Osni

The Dark Side doesn't really follow a religion in a classical sense of the word. Darksiders abandoned the Old World religions a long time ago, when they realized that religious differences only bring division to an already weakened and small population. Instead, the few elders that landed on this side of Garuda decided to take a more pragmatical, opportunistic approach. The order of the Skygazers is a group of scholars and astronomers who chart the celestial bodies, natural phenomena on the planet and movement of the two binary stars which make this planet's solar system.   For centuries, the elders of the order have theorized that Garuda is in fact a moon, most likely orbiting a gas giant. The gigantic tides, magnetic activity in the atmosphere and position of the celestial bodies all supported that theory but it couldn't be proven without means for a lengthy expedition over the hostile mountain range. Two centuries ago, the High Elder Pon Osni gather a group of young adventurers and a couple of daring engineers to traverse the mountains and explore the new lands, if any were to be found. The expedition was painstaking and long. Over one half of the population of the Dark side was engaged in the process by supplying food and medical convoys, all in hope for a discovery that could bring them a safer future.   Pon Osni was absolutely sure that Garuda is orbiting a gas giant and that it's atmosphere is rich in Helium-3. This would provide the colony with an opportunity to harvest limitless amounts of precocious fusion fuel and even a chance to revive space travel. The expedition he led was successful and the mountain range was crossed for the fist time in the history of this colony. Little did he know that there is the entire continent on the other side, with another human colony and wildly different views on the world they share.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Out of his six children, only two had descendants. None of the ones living toady are particularly interested in politics or science. The Darksider have lost track of two families, though.

Religious Views

Pon Osni was a pragmatist over all. He was present at every Teaching his father held, and was a faithful follower of the order from early on. "As stars guide us through the universe, so does a helping hand of the fellow men guide us through life" his father used to say. Community over individuality, pragmatism over mysticism. Pon was a vicious prosecutor of Old World religions, and found the old religious scripts primitive, vulgar and inconsistent. He was often found in the city square reading from those old pieces, openly mocking them. His hatred towards old religions went so far that once he physically assaulted a priest who refused to denounce his beliefs.

Wealth & Financial state

2365 scripts on astronomy, myths and philosophy.  Of those, 2007 scripts and charts brought from the Old Worlds.  62 of his own scripts written and published, 60 approved by the Skygazers council.  200 scripts on philosophy of the Old Worlds.  90 scripts on folktales, myths and stories collected from the settlers.  6 scripts undecipherable.
