Karai

Karai is the religious and educational center of the Dark side. Oddly enough, it is also the smallest city on the continent. Other cities built upon the Kinkos are dictated by the positions and grouping of these ancient structures. The Kinkos are organized into groups of ten to thirty structures, with the plateaus somewhat overlapping vertically. The cities evolved around these groupings, and each city received a fusion core. Since there were only 7 cores available, some of the formations are used only as farmlands.   Karai is the city on top of the highest formation, consisting of only three plateaus. High up, overlooking the whole continent, Karai consists of a massive observatory, power station, abbey and modest living quarters for the Skygazers. The atmosphere is thin, weather uninviting and there is no food production in this barren place.   Other Kinkos, especially the agricultural areas, look like lush gardens brimming with life and people. Karai is the very opposite of this. Leaning on the side of the mountain peak, it looks like it's floating on top of a permanent cloud formation. The observatory and the abbey resemble a pile of rocks rather than an intellectual capitol. The architecture (if it can be called that) reeks of necessity and hastiness, like the whole city was built within a couple of years from what was available right then and there. And that would not be an incorrect conclusion.   The first settlers built the observatory as quickly as possible, and the abbey was originally just a huge storage for computers, digital scripts and any other technology that might be of value. As centuries passed, there was always something more important to do and more imminent issues to solve. And so, the city that houses the greatest minds of the Dark side remain uninviting and sadly modest.   Pastors and Elders who reside in this city ascend to the lower settlements daily, but common Darksiders rarely visit Karai. And why would they? All the religious and scientific works of the Skygazers are available through the common network, pastors organize daily discussions about farming and living improvements, and whoever's willing to listen to the words of the Elders can do so in the city squares.
