An unlikely alliance between Queen Eril of the Aeris and Emperor Amuk, Lord of the Dragon Isles, almost led to an all out war across all of Garlan.

There has never been a world-wide war across Garlan. The closest the world has ever come to such tragedy was in 1204 AS. Scholars dubbed it “The Almost War” – a rapid build-up of tensions between the continents caused by the rulers of Aeris trying to re-open the Abyssal Gates. Queen Eril (then ruler of a unified Aeris) and Emperor Amuk of the Dragonborn (Lord of the Dragon Isles) were waring over the Scar of Amstead for 15 years before the two rulers came to an agreement. They would use their superior armies to conquer the other continents, sharing claim of the sealed gateways once their plan was complete.   Their peace led to countless attacks on the coasts of Marithell, Varenfall, and Eldorwin for another 3 years, tensions between the continents steadily growing. Nione and its rulers were the only ones steadfast on not entering a world-wide war, and so it proposed beating Aeris where its military was weakest: the sea. They blocked supply routes along common sea channels, eventually forcing Eril and Amuk to admit defeat after almost a year of starving their people.   This led to the formation of the Azure Council – 15 individuals from across Garlan committed solely to keeping the peace and upholding world-wide laws. Alongside the council came The Shields of Amarynth, named for their duty (peace keeping and protection) and the place where they reside (Amarynth Isle).
