Wounded plains

Wounded plains (reč. Raňione polia) used to be fertile lands similar to the Quarterfields before the accident in Runa. Now they are a desolate and sad place, though still home to many citizens of Valessia. Once the seat of power for the Dwarf-Human-Quarterling alliance, the city of Runa is located here.

Geography

The Wounded plain is a coastal flatland with many forests. The river Oghan's Right flows through here, its delta flowing into the Thaumic Sea. In this sea, near the coast of the plains, the Thaumaturge's Teeth protect the city of Runa from the waves, with the treacherous Needles further down south. There's also a lake, Oghanzor, which Val's Hair flows into.

Fauna & Flora

Little grows or lives in these plains. After the aforementioned explosion in Runa, as the aura had been forcibly removed from this land, new life has trouble sticking. Furthermore, the existing life, at least all that had not died, had mutated and changed in unexpected ways. The trees no longer sprout leaves of bare fruit, though their black veins still course with a semblance of living. Creatures are more volatile and twisted. It is not known whether these creatures are somehow able to reproduce within the bounds of the Wounded plains, but as outposts to keep them in have been built, their numbers seem to not diminish.

History

The history of the Wounded plains is also the history of Runa, thus it is important to seek knowledge there. For completion's sake, however, it should be mentioned that at the height of the Thaumic War, an explosion of aura occured in Runa, so strong that the surrounding region had been destroyed until now, and the region itself now completely lacks aura.
