Joining Gomble's Journey to Wolton

Adventurers: Aezrah, Gomble, Korae, Naomi, and Xanaster   Four of us decided to join Gomble on his trip to Wolton so that we could spend more time getting to know each other. As we made our way there, we enjoyed one another's company and shared good conversation over delicious homemade meals. On the first evening, Xanaster shared his mother's recipe for Feywild eggs, which were delightful. As we talked, Gomble challenged us to think about why we had joined his guild and what our goals are (and I'd recommend to everyone reading this that it is a good idea to consider these questions yourself). Over the course of our nearly two-day journey to Wolton (thanks to Gomble's shortcut), we shared stories about ourselves and discussed our aspirations.   We arrived at Wolton the following evening, and Gomble introduced us to his brother Bilbin, with whom we stayed for the duration of our trip. After the evening meal, Bilbin was kind enough to share some Gnomish scotch with us, which was truly enjoyable. Though I am unfamiliar with most liquors, I can safely say that this whiskey was the best I have ever had. We enjoyed more conversation before being shown to our room for the night.   The next morning, while we were eating breakfast, one of the townspeople, Loblin Goldstitch, came to Bilbin's house requesting help with his son Valgim's wedding that day. Loblin explained that several things had gone wrong, and he needed all the help he could get. First, the groom was missing and hadn't been seen since the night before. After some discussion, we decided to send Aezrah to look for him. Second, both the priest and the cook had cancelled at the last minute as neither made it to town in time for the ceremony. I volunteered to officiate the wedding, so long as they did not mind a cleric of Rostasian presiding over the marriage; and before the ceremony, Korae and I both helped prepare food for the reception. In addition, a romanitic rival to the groom, one Warno Bamplezimp, appeared to be causing trouble and likely planned to interfere with the ceremony. As we learned, it is customary for gnomes in this society to challenge other suitors and delay a wedding for up to a year in an attempt to steal the bride's affection. Casual meddling was to be expected, but Loblin desperately wanted Valgim to get married today rather than have the ceremony delayed for a year (he made it clear that he was more than ready for his son to move out). So Xanaster went to hinder Warno's attempts to stop the wedding. One last thing Loblin needed aid with was finding a ceremonial bird's egg which the bride and groom were to share as part of the traditional ceremony. So Gomble, being familiar with the tradition, went in search of such an egg.   Though I do not know the full story, here is what I understand about the situation involving the groom's disappearance and Warno Bamplezimp's interference. Aezrah came to find out that Warno had kidnapped Valgim the night before and held him in his custody so that he could steal the bride, Alni. Meanwhile, Xanaster found Warno's house and attempted to persuade him to stop interfering with the wedding. When that failed, and Warno's friends tried to shut the door on Xanaster, he stopped the door with his cane. Unaware that his cane doubled as a blade, the gnomes tried to pull it through the doorway so they could close the door. Much to their horror, they only succeeded in loosing the sheath and revealing Xanaster's sword. They completely misinterpreted the situation and thought he was trying to attack them, and in their panic, started fleeing the house by climbing out the window. At this point, Aezrah arrived at Warno's house with his information that Warno had kidnapped Valgim. Aezrah feystepped in and found Valgim, and Xanaster explained the situation to the man who functioned as the town guard, Laisrin. Thankfully the two Eladrin were able to smooth things over and rescue the groom, preventing Bamplezimp from further tampering with the wedding.   While Aezrah and Xanaster were retrieving the groom and Gomble was searching for the egg, Korae and I dividing the cooking responsibilities and had the help of a few gnomes as they welcomed us into their kitchens. Despite a few premature culinary disasters on my end, we eventually made a surplus of food, and Korae provided an abundance of a delicious soup he called "Gnomish Noodle Soup." It was a hit, and everyone asked for his recipe. Bilbin also contributed to the cooking with his machine that rapidly produced a variety of pies. Bilbin is a truly inventive person, and his pie maker saved the day with how quickly it assembled pies.   Finally, it was time for the wedding. Loblin handed me a book of vows I could use, but as I opened it for the first time at the altar, I realized that everything was written in Gnomish. (I don't speak a lick of Gnomish.) Seeing as I have officiated a number of weddings in my time, I trusted my gut and delivered fairly simple, traditional vows (in Daelish). I did notice a few odd looks from the guests when I said "in the ordinace of Rostasian" (though you must understand, I said that completely on instinct, and after saying it once, I could not very well alter it the second time around!), but overall, everything went smoothly. Afterwards, we all enjoyed the reception. There was good food (and thankfully more than enough to share with our three-hundred or so guests), enjoyable conversations, and dancing. At the reception, I met Laisrin (in fact, the only human and non-gnome in Wolton), and we shared a dance. Overall, the whole celebration was wonderful.   Over the course of our trip, I'd say that all five of us grew to know each other much better than before, and I am glad to have been a part of this trip. I am thankful for the guild Gomble has created and the friendships I am forging.   Naomi Brightstone
