The Shard of Orym

The blade Orym became famous following the fall of the World-Breaker. In the aftermath of that dark time a champion rose from among the people of Aparia to drive back those who would prey upon the weak and helpless. This champion's true name is long since lost from history but the story of their blade lives on. The legend goes that the champion known as Light-Bringer was born in poor circumstances and worked her family farm in the fertile lands of Aparia before the World-Breaker fell. The legend is unclear about the exact date she set out from her farm to help those in need but some scholars claim to have found records indicating that she was no more than 19 or 20 years old at the time. Armed with nothing but her Father's old sword she set out to help the nearby town of Nindrol defend themselves against bandit raids and ruthless warlords who were taking advantage of the global chaos to loot and pillage anything they could.    After a year of fighting for Nindrol the Light-Bringer had gained a mighty reputation for both her skill in combat and the quality of her decisive leadership. She became known to the people of Nindrol as "Eratir" or Light-Bringer in the common tongue due to the compassion and hope she brought to the people. By this time the champion had gained a large following of friends and allies and when Nindrol was finally safe she set out with her band to protect and liberate other settlements from tyranny and chaos all across Ascodel. Over the next decade or so (the records depicting this time are vague) it is said that with each settlement the champion visited her power grew and some began to say that the Gods themselves showed her great favour. Some apparent eye-witness accounts from the time even claim that she began to emit a soft blue glow and that her presence carried an other-worldly sense of peace. However one thing that is not in doubt is the power she wielded through her Father's sword as there is still evidence of it's magic today!   Over the course of her life the Light-Bringer fought many battles in the field and her martial skill was renowned, but it was her diplomacy, compassion and leadership which ultimately forged her legend as wherever she went peace would follow and remain. When the last battle was fought and the world knew peace again the champion decreed that her sword was to be broken down and that each of her allies should take a shard and use it in the foundations of a new settlement which they were to found.    The records are vague around the rest of the champion's life though it is estimated she lived well into her 90th years and was beloved by her friends, her children and the people of Nindrol where she eventually settled down after years of campaigning.    The shard that sits in the throne-room of Hollow Ember in Graxia is said to be the only remaining piece of Orym, the Blade of the Light-Bringer and is considered to be a priceless historical artefact. Evidence of the divine magic which touched the blade still remains and it to glows with a permanent soft, blue light.
