Dasoor

Dasoor are large reptilian creatures that have inhabited The Wastes for over 100 years. They are ferocious and solitary carnivores which inhabit the rocky crags in the foothills and mountains preying on local wildlife and unwary travellers alike. Strikingly colourful at times, these creatures can channel the magical energy within them to shift the colour of their scales to camouflage themselves or attract mates. Upon discovering the creatures explorer Wesun Kragshield famously remarked that Dasoor were "as beautiful and deadly as a Kalari assassin"
One of the most unusual features of the Dasoor are its facial tendrils. Varying in number between 1-5 Dasoor display fleshy tendrils on the end of their snout which are thought to be especially sensitive to magical energy. Scholars have theorised that due to the residual magical energy present in The Wastes all life that inhabits the area carry traces of magical energy within them. It has been suggested that the Dasoor use these tendrils to guide them toward life-forms with a particularly high concentration of this energy to hunt and consume. However, it is not known why the Dasoor seem to favour these prey above others.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Large reptilian body covered in colour shifting scales. Dasoor are usually between 8-10ft in length with 6 long powerful limbs and sensory tendrils on the snout. They are cold blooded and carnivorous.

Genetics and Reproduction

The Dasoor matures at around 6 months old having grown rapidly on a protein rich diet. Dasoor are solitary creatures who congregate once a year at volcanic geysers to mate but otherwise live alone. They lay 5-6 eggs per cluster after 3 months of mating.

Growth Rate & Stages

1-4 weeks

Dasoor are usually around 1ft in length when they hatch and quickly go about hunting to fuel their voracious appetite

4 weeks to 8 weeks

The Dasoor has grown significantly in this time by several feet and developed powerful muscles. At this stage the first signs of horn/spike growth are evident on the dorsal and cranial regions.

8 weeks to 24 weeks

The Dasoor spends this time hunting and sleeping to fuel its changing body. Dasoor encountered in this stage are particularly aggressive.

24 weeks+

The Dasoor has reached maturity and will usually live for around 3-5 years

Ecology and Habitats

Found exclusively in the Wastes of Kaskar, the Dasoor can be found in the mountains and foothills bordering the Aku'zela (The Howling Desert in the common tongue). It lives in caves amongst the rocky crags.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Carnivore The Dasoor will often drag its prey back to a cave and store it nearby whilst it eats periodically.

Biological Cycle

They hibernate in groups in underground volcanic caves in winter to stay warm.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The Dasoor has exceptional smell and sight. It is also highly sensitive to magical energy due to the residue present in the wastes. This is often displayed by the tendrils on its snout twitching and becoming agitated in the presence of magical energy.
