Lighting Medium Range Air Defense

Weltindustria

The Lighting MRAD provides a modern, networked and capable Air-defense system for your needs. Designed to provide air defense against cruise missiles and fast-flying aircraft, the Lighting MRAD utilizes a networked system of launchers, radars and command vehicles to provide a sosphisticated defense capability to military installations, ground forces and civilian installations.   Purpose built to operate under heavy jamming and adverse conditions, the Lighting MRAD provides a close to unmatched capability in medium-range air defense.

A Multi-layered Counter Electronic Warfare system

Consisting of a datalinked Radar Unit, SHORAD unit and multiple SAM launchers, the Lighting operates off of the tenet of multi-layered defense; relying on certain techniques to defeat, destroy or nullify incoming missiles.   Counter-EWAR is given special thought; with the Radar possessing the capability to hop frequencies - making it harder to find with radar-homing missiles or jam. If these measures are defeated, two SHORAD units accompany each battery - allowing it to shoot down incoming ARMs.   Artillery is a threat to any air-defense. Many air-defense sites have found themselves saturated by cruise missiles or artillery shells. Due to the immobile nature of older air-defense sites, they would usually be destroyed.   No longer. The Lighting AD system possesses the ability to uninstall within minutes, due to the self contained nature of each transporter. This allows it to evade and avoid incoming cruise missiles and artillery - allowing the Lighting to fight another day.

Integrated Defense

A Type-8 datalink enables datalinking with Janpian and Gonswanan AA vehicles, and coordination between Weltindustria products. This allows for multiple radars to search for targets, allowing for the search capabilities of the Panopticon search radar to be multiplied, and enables cohesive coverage of entire regions.   The SAM site can integrate with other systems to create a multi-layered AA net for maximum protection of assets and buildings.

Capabilities

The Lighting SAM system is designed for interoperability and modularity. Parts can be rapidly swapped out if needed.   The Basic Lighting SAM system comes with a radar unit, five launchers and two close-in SHORAD units.   A Panopticon Radar is mounted on a 5-days APC, acting as the combination command/radar unit for the battery. Multiple TELs are available for the average customer, along with a variety of munitions.   Once an aircraft is detected, a command is sent to the TEL to initiate a missile launch. Initial guidance is provided by the 4-channel Panopticon Radar, able to coordinate and launch four missiles simultaneously.   When the internal missile radar can detect the enemy aircraft, it severs initial guidance. If jamming is detected, the command unit sends a signal to initiate home-on-jam, destroying the source of the jamming.   A few seconds before impacting a target, the 9R330 will enable a IR sensor. Anything that does not match with the saved radar return or IR signatures that do not match up with saved profiles will be rejected - ensuring a high hit rate.

Statistics

Munitions
9R330 - Standard HE, 50 km range. Active radar guidance, terminal IR combination. Home-on-jam and basic CWAR package installed. DPR many be acquired for 430m. Mounted on TEL.   9F220 - Standard HE, 50 km range. Designed for faster intercept, bundled with more accurate guidance. Must be order. Mounted on TEL.   LF230 - Standard HE, 5 km range. Designed for immediate intercept. Initial SARH, terminal guidance IR. Mounted on SHORAD for point-defense.
Vehicles
RTV MRAD   Carrying a single Panopticon radar, the RTV MRAD is designed to provide a efficient and networked search radar. With a range of over 150 kilometers, the Panopticon can lock down entire regions or provinces.   It has 4 channels to guide missiles with, enabling it to guide four missiles at once.   MTV MRAD   Transporter Erector vehicle that carries eight missiles. No radar bundled in, datalinks with RTV for initial missile guidance.   MCM MRAD   Specially designed to provide low-level integrated air defense for SAM batteries, the MCM MRAD carries 18 IR AAMs, designed to intercepting threats such as cruise missiles or anti-radiation missiles. With a short range of 5 kilometers per missile and a small radar, the MCM MRAD is designed for one thing - low level, rapid response air defense.
