Heliopause Station One

Heliopause Station One is a small orbital platform, initially intended as a scientific study post, focusing on the physics of the outer heliosphere’s interaction with local interstellar media, and while it has provided valuable scientific data, it also proved to be nothing too special. Today Heliopause Station, the one in its name being dropped due to the other station plans being scrapped, serves mostly relay transmitter and signal detector, though it sees regular maintenance with infrequent sensor and scientific instrument upgrades, allowing it to continue performing scientific observations and has been in constant operation for nearly 110 years (72 Earth years)

It has earned the title of “Middle of Nowhere” due to its distance from any other inhabited location within the Imperium, in fact, marking the edge of what is considered sovereign Imperium space, forming a sphere some 200 AU (astronomical Units – the distance between Ňisa, the star, and the habitable worlds of Maka and Kēst) diameter with Ňisa at the center.

Demographics

Heliopause Station is an uncrewed orbital observation platform, which occasionally sees one to four scientists, mechanics, and technicians living aboard for days to weeks at a time, while the station undergoes maintenance or retrofit.

Assets

Employing an array of equipment, allowing continual observation of this ever-changing region of space, Heliopause Station One continues to play a part in Ňisa security.

  • Plasma Analyzer – Elemental and isotopic plasma composition and temporal composition energy associations
  • Plasma Radio Wave Experiment – Examining effect of plasma changes on radio waves
  • Magnetometer – Measuring very low fields of any magnetic fields located at this range from Ňisa
  • Atom Detector – Angular distribution, composition, energy, and mass of charged and neutral atoms entering and exiting the heliopause
  • Energetic Particle Detector – Cosmic ray energy levels
  • Dust Analyzer – Composition, energy, and mass composition of dust particles
  • UV-Photometer – Hydrogen density in the region
