Mokomort Isthmus

The Mokomort Isthmus is a broad land bridge connecting the dense jungles of the Beastlands to the South with the fertile plains of Ellinia to the North. The Isthmus is a broad expanse of swampy marshlands, broken only by a few lone mountains and a winding maze of tributaries. Much of the land remains entirely undeveloped and difficult to reach. Of all the geographic zones in Galadria, the Isthmus is the least populated - even less so than the Goren Desert. For this reason, the environment is the perfect home to some of the strongest monsters on the continent.   Despite bordering three distinct geographical zones, Mokomort has very little in the way of trade. The dangerous monster population and the difficult terrain make land-based trade an unappealing prospect. That said, the advent of commercialized airship travel has connected some of the isthmus' larger population centers with the greater Galadrian trade networks.   The zone is a popular destination for more experienced Adventurers looking to earn coin. Many of the flora and fauna of the swamps are unique to the marshland's environment, and are highly sought after in other areas of the continent as alchemical reagents, crafting materials and even simple expressions of wealth. Moreover, the difficulty of travel means that guards are in constant demand. Finding an airship or an expedition to protect is a simple matter - for those strong enough to take on the monsters of the swamps, at any rate. Finally, the area is filled with all manner of ruins and dungeons that make delving a popular, if risky, endeavor for those crews experienced enough to do so.    

Key Locations

Taboo, the Heart of Mokomort - Far and away the largest city in the region. The city rests in a canyon deep beneath the canopy and is a gathering-place for scientists, arcanists and all other manner of researchers whose work was deemed too immoral or too dangerous to continue.   Solda Saban - A slightly elevated plateau in the center of the swamps. It is the home of the Adventurer's Guild regional headquarters, and acts as a launching point for most of the expeditions that take place on the isthmus.   Solutha - The closest thing to a trading hub in the region. It sits along a river at the far eastern edge of the isthmus. Traders haul goods down Mokomort's tributary systems to be sold to merchants sailing the Aeridon Sea. Then, they haul continental trade goods back up the rivers to be sold to the citizens of Taboo and Solda Saban at exorbitant markups.   Rajan's Respite - The final settlement large enough to be called a city. Unlike the other population centers of the isthmus, it is occupied mostly by natives. The area around Rajan's Respite is curiously devoid of powerful monsters and dungeons, making it a poor destination for adventurers. The city is ruled by a council of tribal elders.
