Lori
Lori is a tiefling sorcerer, entertainer and the sister of Lothar. Player character played by Lottie in the The Ironlock claimant, two-shot
Story
The Mystical Misty Lee (but her friends can just call ‘er Lori) is a wild magic sorcerer, entertainer and a tiefling and one half of the Twin Marvels Magic and Sorcery act. The other half is her twin sibling, who goes by Lothar. Just, Lothar. She is free spirited, optimistic (bordering naive) and what she lacks in intelligence, she makes up for in spirit and fire (literally).
From a young age, the two tieflings were entranced by the mythical and wondrous tales of faeries, adventure, magic and wealth and would always dream up their own little adventures. As soon as they decided they could navigate a map (and totally live on their own like adults.) the pair set off for their first big adventure; certain that with Lothar’s smarts, quick hands and Lori’s natural ability to set things on fire with her hands, they’d be able to do anything. It took them about a week to completely lose their way. And about another for the food and money to completely run out.
Desperate for any kind of help or direction (because adventuring with no way to know where you are and no food in your stomach sucks) they stumble upon a village, and are welcomed with open arms by the colorful circus that is currently performing there. They feed the childeren, clothe the children, and show them the wonders of the circus: performing magical and dangerous tricks without having to worry about where you’ll be sleeping or what you’ll be eating. Completely enthralled by the dazzling circus life and all these colorful figures treating them like capable grown ups for once; they happily sign their freedom away to join the acts. They become the Twin marvels: performing magic and illusionary tricks, with Lori taking the stage and coming into her own powers, learning how to wow a crowd with lights, tricks, fire, and dangerous manouvres.
After a while, however the circus seemed to lose its sparkle to the twins. They eventually find out that signing your life away for virtually no pay, and a ‘family’ who sees you for your how much cash you bring in and not how happy you are, isn’t that great either. So they plan their escape from their circus life. Go undercover, lay low and pray their circus family/bosses don’t find them.
After a successful escape, with their skills of bedazzlement and distraction honed, The two travel and con on. A street act of ‘rizz em and rob ‘em, with Lori putting on an act, and Lothar robbing the people blind wherever he can. On a particular act gone wrong they’re forced into running from the local authorities and end up being sheltered by Hilda, who happens to be around. She even lies in the faces of the authorities about having seen two degenerate teenagers. The teens are immediately in awe by this, and swear right there that they owe her a debt now. A life debt. Very large, important life debt. Seriously. No take-backs. If she ever needs heroic rescuing of sorts; they’ll be there. Perhaps it’s got to do with the fact that they still desperately search for a place to belong, and that Hilda is one of the first cool adults they’ve crossed paths with. Either way, a debt is a debt, even if the one who is owed swears she doesn’t want to be owed by two tiefling circus runaways.
Later on, Hilda actually called in the debt owed (or more like the twins caught wind of her needing aid with reclaiming her ancestral home and decided they were needed) and Lori and her brother ended up joining a wonderful group of Dwarves and associates on this journey, with plenty of hijinks, shenanigans and interesting figures to fill her days with. Perhaps one would even dare to say that somewhere along the road she came to think of everyone as family. Last we left her, Lori and her newfound tribe were still in the midst of restoring Hilda’s clan to home and glory.
A piece of this adventure can be read about in the The Ironlock claimant.
Character
Lori is social, extroverted and enthousiastic enough for at least three people, with a heart full of kindness, and as loyal as can be. She tends to go overboard with her emotions though, which really highlights her more immature, dramatic and stubborn side. She’s prone to crying and tantrums if she feels slighted and might not always be the most rational in the room. She’s not particularly bright, but that’s never stopped her from pitching ideas or offering help to anyone.
Important people
Lori (as much as she wants to) doesn’t have a lot of important people in her life (yet!) Though she loves quickly and fiercely and so the list could easily expand given time and opportunity.
- Lothar: Her twin brother, other half and partner in- well, everything. If Lori is a kite in the wind, Lothar is the string that tethers her to the ground so she doesn’t fly off. They’ve been together from the start, have always had each other’s back and Lori believes nothing could ever tear them apart. She loves him more than anything in this world and she genuinely believes that if he were to die before her (which she had him promise not to do) her heart would stop beating too out of solidarity.
- Gruthilda: With only the circus women in her early life to look up to, Hilda’s arrival in Lori’s life meant she finally had someone cool to look up to. A powerful woman who is not afraid to say what she thinks, take what she wants and lies to the authorities; Hilda is everything Lori wants to be as a fully grown adult. (she had no idea how old Hilda is, but her guesses vary depending on the day) and has observed her closely ever since joining her quest, in hopes of one day also being able to hold an axe and look as cool as Hilda does.
Appearance
She is a pink tiefling, with curly horns (almost like a ram) and red curly hair, always messy or pinned up in creative ways. She’s average to short hight and quite skinny and petite, which makes it obvious that physical strength is not her strong suit. She often wears her old circus performance dress, but has since been told that it’s not per se appropriate garb for traveling and has taken to borrowing coats, scarfs, etc. until she can buy herself a proper adventuring outfit (and just hopes there are glittery cute pastel options available)
Skills
- Acrobatic skills due to circus background
- wild magic (takes a liking to the more explosive spells)
- making merry
- a little bit of lockpicking learned from Lothar
- plays the flute
- has taken an interest in cooking (is not very good at it yet)
- Quite persuasive and can get a crowd going, as well as convince a stranger that they’ve definitely met before and he should totally let her and her circus crew pass the bridge, no worries
- She also thinks she’s quite a good kisser (despite having no experience in this.)
- Swordskills Bare minimum, but can hold her ground against a goblin or two (from experience) would absolutely get her ass handed to her in hand to hand combat training, though. And basic self defence with simple weapons
- Magic items: Possesses the Flute of Illusions
Also possesses one mysterious stone of a pair of two, which lets her communicate with the holder of the other stone mind-to-mind once in a while. Lothar has the other stone.
