Ironlock clan
The ironlock clan was a small clan relatively isolated from any other clans, sitting in a small mountanous area surrounded by hillands.
For the most part it was an ordinary clan. It grew mushrooms for food. Mined iron and other materials in the mountains. Kept some pastures with animals above ground. Traded with other clans up north and human settlements around them.
The ironlocks existed during the tumultous time of the collapse, having been created not long prior to it. It managed to hold out and surivive. During this time the ironlocks became versed in rune magic more than the average clan, likely to defend themselves. They became one of the greatest clans when it came to rune magic, despite their relatively small size, having only 1 (albeit large) hold.
The ironlocks survived this tumultous time and proceeded to exist for a long time in stability.
Untill its collapse the survivors of the hold to this day do not know what happened exactly. But only "commoners" of the clan survived, and none recall the events beyond fleeing and losing memory of the holds location. People assume some magic was afoot. Regardless the clan scattered all over becoming a lost clan. Some survivors sought refuge with other clans, while others took the settlements of humans.
1 small group which traveled south after the holds fall, had a semblance of truth behind what happened. while their memory failed them too, some in this group claimed the hold had been imprisoning a great monster which should never be released.
While it is not exactly known anymore when this collapse happened, the hold was lost somewhere between 200-300 years.
around the year 663 the hold was rediscovered and word spread among dwarves. various dwarves with even some claim to the hold would try and come to stake it. only some with reasonable power would actually get far. struggle between the various factions was inevitable. not helped by the fact the hold was not immediately acceccible and adventurers had to go in to try and clear the hold.
Gruthilda Ironlock was one of the major claimants, she was descendant of the southern group who believed something was trapped inside, she seeks to stake her claim to make sure and if it is, to keep it that way.
Another major claimant was Maggarn Ironlock-Marblerock, a puppet claimant used by the Marblerock clan.
