Magic items tipically do not have a soul so how can they happen, this article details it: 1, physical change. This is not too difficult to explain. the magic, whether wild or intended just physically changes matter around it. temporary change like seen by spellcasters is often just because permanent change requires quite potent magic, because transmutation will revert over time in most scenarios (just getting rid of a certain type of life energy is hard if its already types so you need to either supplant it or transform its type which are both difficult) 2, magic effect on a object. this is a bit more, what it comes down to giving a magic effect, to a object, it is akin to rune magic, basically the spell energy doesn’t just exist, but is also in a particular shape causing the effect, this can be anything in wild magic, in more specific scenarios it's because of a spell energy type not “belonging” embedding itself, this is how non-magical creatures sometimes through accidental birth and then perpetuated through evolution, have magic. this magic always has a trigger point, most of the time its not something permanent but instead it is used when something hits it with a ping of life energy (and intent) to trigger the magic, wild magic can ALSO trigger it, and stuff like full moon or other leyline like events can also have effect. when a effect is “permanent” its just a illusion, it simply then has a effect that is perpetual as long as it has the life energy for it, but those effects will either stop(if it has some safety built in through design) or destroy themselves when the life energy gets too low There is another point to note here, and that is the usage of life energy. so these effects can be profound and complicated, and as a result they cost quite a bit of life energy, because of this there is a limit how powerfull effects on objects tend to be as more powerful ones would snap themselves out of existence. basically you always have to remember that a creature without a soul won’t be able to use magic, so often the magic object is either 1 use disintegrating after use(whether natural or not) so it doesn’t exist for long, with it being a permanent effect it then exists for a couple hours, or there is some fuel source to take energy from(like if its only triggered on a full moon, in leylines or by a creature/fuel source providing the energy), additionally if the effect doesn’t take lot of energy, then the slow spread of life energy between dense and spread out energy places is enough to replenish the energy, this is how low magic effects can be infinitely self perpetuating possibly and how around leylines more is possible.
