Lugwen tgwen
The root of the Starleaf Climber, a rare plant that grows high on the eastern side of the Half-Mountains on Talioche. Prised by artisans for its toughness and tensile strength, and it's tendency to absorb and retain any liquids, wood stains or paints it is submerged in. This absorption also allows the root to retain enchantments and spells upon it much more readily than many other materials.
Properties
Material Characteristics
A dull, brown looking root, with relatively few root hairs. Found in considerable lengths, following cracks in the rocks for as far as it can seeking water and stability for the plant above it.
Physical & Chemical Properties
Tough and stretchy and fire-proof even when tinder-dry. Readily and greedily absorbs liquids, swelling very slightly as it does so.
Geology & Geography
Only found on the side of the half mountains that face The Sandwell, attempts to grow it elsewhere have so far failed.
History & Usage
Cultural Significance and Usage
The Tgwen Ehsiaa have long used the root and plant above it as components in their shrines, and as parts of staffs, snares and occasionally bows. It is considered the mountains greatest gift, and they frequently say a quick and vague prayer too "the mountain" upon finding or using it.
Refinement
The root can be used just fine in its raw state, but can be heated to cause it to become much stiffer. As this seriously impairs its absorptive properties this stiffening is best done after the infusions, but possible warping from the heat can cause and expensive failure.
