Special abilities
Due to the corruption knowing everything about Abraxis presented a very real danger to anyone who found out too much. It would cause a great deal of pain to the person aswell as the loss of something important to them, losing something as simple as an arm to something as major as losing the ability to use magic or even memories and feelings
It's currently unknown if Abraxis's death would prevent this from happening, but none are willing to chance it

Personal history
Abraxis has existed for eons, as of the last few thousand years, they seem to have become slowly corrupted by an outside source. They had been slowly deteriorating in their ability and control of that ability, to the point to where they could no longer properly fulfill their duties and became a danger to anyone that became fully aware of them. When the elf Kel-Dai Gilven confronted Abraxis, they had done their best to explain their situation and finally asked for Kel to kill them to prevent even further corruption
Morality & Philosophy
In the end, Abraxis seemed to have been very distraught themselves that their very existence was posing a danger to others, and only wanted to do what they were first came into existence for in the first place, and that's ensure the stability and safety of the Material Plane

Even to the end, Abraxis just wanted to keep the world safe, knowing their death was the only way to make that possible

Their Guardian had been their one and only companion for thousands of years, and they had always felt guilty that many years were squandered simply guarding Abraxis
