With the Chef feat, the appropriate recipe, and the necessary ingredients, a PC can create special meals during a short rest that are consumed at the end of the rest. Each special meal has its own effects, detailed in the recipe.
The ingredients have rarities ranging from common to rare, with scarcity and prices increasing accordingly.

Recipes are not known by default, they must be researched (As detailed in XGtE), but once found they are known permanently.
Characters can only be under the effect of one special meal at a time. If a character consumes a special meal while under the effect of a previous one, the first effect immediately ends and the character must make a DC10 CON saving throw. On a failure the character becomes ill from overeating and gains 1 level of exhaustion.
