Given enough free time and the services of an instructor, a character can learn a language or pick up proficiency with a tool.

Learning Skills

Characters can spend their downtime learning new skills to gain proficiency in them. They can only focus on one skill (or language) at a time.

• Gaining Proficiency with a new tool takes 50-(5*Intelligence Modifier) days of downtime.
• Gaining Proficiency with a new skill takes 100 days of downtime.
• Learning to read/write/speak a new language takes a year of downtime.
