Elfaime, realm of fairies

One of the first realms to come back into contact with our world, Elfaime is a world that looks like it was pulled straight from every European countryside at once. Large, loping hills and idyllic forests. Streams and rivers flow casually along. If it wasn't full to bursting with what we thought were fairytale creatures, it would make an incredible location for humanity to expand into.
The fairies spent one of our centuries preparing for our reunion, their skills with the magics of their world giving them insight to the movements of the universe, and they worked tirelessly to ready us. Through a bit of manipulation in places, a few whispered secrets, bribes, and a few very good songs, our world was much more ready to accept the reveal when it actually came about. A few well-placed garrisons kept the worst of the portals from spilling out too many dangerous things.
They couldn't stop everything, nor the damage of some of the things released before we could fully handle the event, but their tireless efforts despite a situation that was strange to the vast majority of humanity, ingratiated them to a great many people.
The residents of the realm of fairies tend to be whimsical and carefree. Charming and well-spoken, they are often shopkeepers, gamblers, and other professions that benefit from amicable nature backed by ruthless positioning and politicking.
Given what our own myths say about fairies, you might be shocked to learn that their vicious nature rarely comes out during interactions with humans. Of course, there are many exceptions to that statement, and many more will come as we get more comfortable with each other, but the vast majority of humanity will simply find fairies to be friendly, if a bit aloof. The other peoples that they encounter, however, have caught the full force of their ability to make deals that secretly favor them, to move pieces on the chessboard of life, and to backstab when it hurts the most.
The races that the fairies deem 'inelegant' catch the worst of it, especially those that have more limited mental faculties than that of humanity. The hill giants of the midwest are a particularly popular target. On the other end of the scale, the vampire courts are a long-time rival. I personally believe it's because the different vampire bloodlines are equally as skilled at political maneuverings, and the Fairies are none too pleased at competition for what they believe to be their crown. I also like to include the fact that Vampires were the longest-lasting of the magical remnants in our world, being some of the last to disappear, in my personal musings on the subject. Something that just rankles the Fairies, who pride themselves on...well, everything.
Describing the Fairies as carefree and aloof may give the impression that they are... less ready to defend themselves than humanity might be. They might not be able to put up a stand-up fight like the armies of earth, they are certainly not defenseless. Look next to Fae diplomats and persons of interest, and you'll see the primary means of defense.
  The Fairy Knights.
In old depictions, they seemed just like humans clad in armor, but they are so much more. So magical that they literally have it coming off in waves, resulting in strange effects like grass sprouting at their feet, or a constant flock of butterflies flying around them no matter the situation, Fairy Knights are an impressive breed in combat. The armor that they are most famous for isn't even necessary. The most powerful of their order have been seen to take bullets without flinching, before cutting their enemies clear in two with the blades that they still largely insist on using. You might even find a handful of them adventuring around with humans, or in small groups on our or other planes. Trying to resolve some sort of quest, or simply a lust for adventure. Just stay out of their way, unless you have something powerful backing you up.
As it seems, the Fair Folk are humanity's most well-known allies.
If the Fae can even be described as well known in any capacity.
