Oax

Steady Wood Florabeast

The Oax is one of the hardiest, strongest breeds of Florabeast, which is little surprise considering the strength and durability of both the plant and animal that they derive from. Their backs and sides are covered in woody bark, making it trivial for them to wear harnesses or yokes, and their tough hooves give them better traction in mud than a shod animal.

Their heads are covered with large bushy leaves, so many that their eyes are usually covered up entirely. This doesn't appear to affect their vision all that much. As with other Florabeasts derived from trees, their foliage changes colors throughout the year, turning a deep brown in autumn, though they do not lose their leaves when winter sets in. They simply turn green again when spring arrives.

While Oaxen have a reputation for being hard workers, they aren't particularly fast workers. They seem to be exceptionally philosophical creatures, easily distracted by any flower or butterfly they come across when plowing their fields, and will stop for some minutes to ponder it thoughtfully. No amount of coaxing from their planter will get them going again until they are ready to move on.

Name Explanation
The plural of oak trees is oaks, which is pronounced the same as the name of this Florabeast. The stalwart nature of the ox and the hardy nature of the oak seemed a perfect fit.
