Jelly
Creeping Fruit Aberration
A single Jelly isn't all that much of a concern, it's when they get together and form a little posse that you really need to be concerned. Jellies are just a round blob of stuff, slurping along on the ground seeking out whatever it can find. Like other Gasts, it'll gobble up more of itself wherever it can, but it's not strong or smart enough to open jars or crocks when it finds them. Instead, they've taken to just eating up fruit and berries right off the bush to get more powerful. That includes Florabeasts, unfortunately.
The threat to people is a little less, but only a little. Any sweet thing that might be on someone's fingers from breakfast can attract them, and they'll suck a man's hand right into their greasy selves. Those poor folks that endure this say it feels like being covered in a lot of wet blankets, but they don't cause any harm to one's skin directly. Instead they're a mighty inconvenience, being heavy as a horse and making it impossible to get around when one's stuck on you. The old standby of salt and fire work wonders to drive them off, so keeping a sack of salt in your pockets is always a good idea out on the Frontier.
Jellies take on the color and smell of the jelly they were made from, so you can usually tell just by looking at them. Strawberry is bright red with little seeds, blueberry is a dark purple, apricot is a pale orange, and so on.
Jam
Once a Jelly has eaten up enough of whatever it's made of, it can make itself an even worse nuisance by graduating into a Jam. These move much faster than Jellies and make a beeline for the nearest boots, sucking themselves onto people up to the waist and holding them down. This is when the threat of these Gasts becomes real, since if they're big enough to cover someone's mouth, the undertaker will be busy that day.
Preserves
As if the threat of a moving pile of sticky glop wasn't enough, Jams can grow up too into the worst kind of thing. Preserves have gathered up enough Gastrological energy to take on the shape of a man; a lumpy head and two arms, though their legs are still a single clump that they wobble around on. If the Gast Hunters haven't been called in yet, you'll want to fetch them now. They use those arm-things to flail around and slap up anything and anyone they find, knocking people around and busting down buildings. Thankfully their extra size makes them easier targets, and a few good shots from a muzzleloader with salt balls can put them down for good.
