Helleboar

Lenten Razor Florabeast

Florabeasts are a gift from the creator, to work alongside mankind and assist them in their directive to subdue the earth and master it. Many are cultivated for their physical beauty just like non-mobile flowers and plants, and serve as a reminder of the glory of creation. Some, however, seem to hearken towards a very different sensibility altogether.

With its dark purple covering, glowing yellow eyes, and sulfurous breath, the Helleboar seems to have been spawned from an infernal pit, come to punish sinners and bring them back to the right way through fear. As with most things in the world of Florabeasts, they don't have any such vindictive tendencies, and will follow the guidance of their planters just like any others. They tend to unnerve most of those who behold them, however, and inspire a resolve to practice kindness and do the right thing. Perhaps that, then, is their true purpose.

Helleboar are prized by Guardiners for their stamina and durability, not to mention the noxious brimstone they emit at nearly all times. Florabeasts themselves will think twice before taking on such an opponent when needed. Their planters also need to use caution, as every part of the creature contains a potent toxin that can be transmitted even from touch.

Name Explanation
The Helleborus genus of flowering perennial plants is commonly known as hellebore. This seemed like a perfect candidate for a pig Florabeast that breathes out brimstone, and while the "hell" part of their name is not from an association with the infernal, I decided to take it there. The title of this Florabeast is a reference to the plant's name "Lenten rose" because of its blooming in late winter and early spring, and because of the razorback pig, a type of wild boar.
