Pakkan Species in Freesia | World Anvil

Pakkan

The Pakkan were created by the Goddess Hibis. She speaks to their spiritual leaders through the crystals, guiding them in subtle ways with often vague and cryptic advice and warnings. A furred humanoid race with 2 pairs of arms and short tusks which sweep down and out from alongside their mouths. They are perfectly adapted to living in their harsh and mostly frozen environment and have developed an attunement with the energy given off by the crystals. This attunement allows them to change their physiology to adapt to any environment they find themselves in.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Humanoid bipedals with 2 pairs of arms. Slightly taller than the average human and a more developed muscular structure.

Genetics and Reproduction

Pakkan reproduce sexually and gestate their offspring over a 6 month period. The young are born fur less and are kept in pouches, similar to kangaroos, for another 3 months until their fur grows in.

Growth Rate & Stages

The first 3 months after birth are spent in their mothers pouch where they grow in their thick hair covering. Children mature quite quickly reaching adulthood at 14 years old. Their tusks keep developing until they are about 25.

Ecology and Habitats

The Pakkan live in the arctic and northern tundras of Freesia. Their thick fur enabling them to withstand the cold temperatures and harsh conditions of their home region.

Dietary Needs and Habits

During the warmer months, the pakkan move down on to the tundra plain. Here they spend the summer months fishing, foraging and gathering food stores for the winter. Their diet comprises mainly meat, supplemented by the tubers they farm and any other vegetation they can find. This food is taken back to their mountain winter homes and stored in ice caves to be used during the harshest of winter months when hunting is impossible.

Biological Cycle

During the warmer summer months on the tundra the Pakkan will moult their thick down hair. Their fur also changes from the grey / white tones of winter, to the warmer russets and browns of summer. The female fertility cycle has evolved to adapt to the seasons as well, so that the young are weaned from their pouches during the warmer summer months.
