The Lord of Tomes Rylek
Rylek made an appearance during the age of the Great Rest, he was rumored to be present during two catastrophic events before suddenly disappearing.
Rylek started out as a necromancer, but went through a series of dramatic changes before reaching his current form as the Lord of Tomes presiding over Aberath and his hordes of demons there. While being a member of the Order of Krallic Necromancers he had completed his training and had set out to prove himself as a learned student. Throughout his years as a student he had often been scolded for his extreme testing of rituals and magic's, and also outcast by his peers for his lack of social skills and odd behavior. He never noticed any of this however and was solely focused on his academics to a fault. He knew that an underworld existed and as such that there must be life forms there, that to him should be considered undead. He sought to change his learned rituals of necromancy in a way that he would be able to control the denizens of the underworld, part of his reasoning for this was the way that necromancers were treated by the majority of civilization. They were spurned by most or even spat on in public, until there was a need for their services, even still they were always underpaid or mistreated. He thought the reason for this was because of the way that they interacted with the dead, and that the living relatives to those poor souls disliked that any of the necromancers could defile their loved ones with dark Erda.
He finally found what he was looking for but the creatures were different than he had imagined and found himself slightly out of his league as the creatures were demons and they chased him after he tried to perform a ritual of control on them while they were unaware. They chased him to a cave were they fought and when he had almost lost the battle, a women seemingly came out from nowhere. She helped him fight the demons until he was able to banish them back to Aberath out of a stroke of luck thanks to his desire to read any and all books. The woman turned out to be a demon hunter who claimed that she had to turn him in to her guild so they could decide what should be done with his meddling of their affairs. Before this event he wasn't even aware that demons or demon hunters even existed, with his wounds he had no choice but to submit to her will and follow her to the demon hunters guild.
He spent a great deal of time there, not as a guest nor a prisoner but something embetween. During his time there he read nearly their entire library on demons and the existence of Aberath becoming extremely knowledgeable about such things. He also was able to see through the dogmatic teachings of the books and unlock the hidden knowledge therein. He also spent a great amount of time with the woman Khora, before long they fell in love which was the keystone of the trouble that followed. Ultimately Khora went out with a group of hunters to investigate claims of a horde of demons attacking a nearby village, she nor anyone else from the group of hunters returned. The leaders of the demon hunters were greatly concerned about this as they had not seen this sort of behavior since an invasion event hundreds of years ago. They went out to find what happened to Khora and her group, much to their detesting Rylek accompanied them. What they found was way worse than any of them had dreamt of being possible. There was a full scale invasion being rooted in a place that had been struck by a meteor giving birth to a portal between their dimensions. Rylek had seemingly lost his mind being racked by the thought of having possibly lost Khora, but he had not given up hope and was convinced that she was still alive. In his vengeful rage he sacrificed each of the leaders of the order in turn to guarantee his success in saving her.
Eventually he traveled into Aberath and found her, barely escaping and giving up much of himself in the process. When he returned he managed to convince some of the demon leaders to join under him. He used them to attack the academy of his own order, purchasing him access to forbidden ritual knowledge and a well of power. His demon forces slew many of his kind before he unleashed a great soul stone inside the academy that exploded killing nearly everyone inside and leaving the academy in ruins.
He then turned his attention to the demon hunters guild, as they were leaderless and unaware. He set his forces against them in a final battle. While the battle raged he used the death of the siege to fuel a ritual that would consume the souls of all inside the guild to resurrect his love.
In the end he was successful, but she hated him for what he had done and who he had become. She disappeared into the wild and he banished himself back into the realm of Aberath where he remained for thousands of years, preparing for his next move
