Session 28: An Infernal Legacy
General Summary
In their latest adventure, the party took a short rest within the Winding Passes to regather their thoughts in the wake of their fight with the hellhounds. As they tended to their wounds, ifig and Aspen heard a set of footsteps coming at them from the direction they had come, and the party prepared themselves for what followed.
With various success at hiding, they let down their guard as they realized that it was Adaline who had found them with the careful aid of ifig's druidic symbols. A small reunion was had within the cavern--and some hugs surprisingly shared between not only ifig and Adaline, but also between Trystan and Adaline--before the party settled down for a bit of a recap of events with one another.
Meepo shared his concern about the hellhounds making a home in the Winding Passes and that he wished to track down the last of them, while Adaline relayed some of what happened to her in the Feywild. The party decided then to make their way carefully through this tunnel and traveled nearly two hours before arriving at an opening, the dull glow of fire and torches beyond.
Adaline and ifig crept to the edge of the tunnel and peered beyond, finding a massive cavern of buildings built directly into the mountain itself. They stood at the precipice of what appeared to be the fifth floor balcony of this large space, and as they looked below, they found hundreds of fiends (cambions and imps and hellhounds) and even the tell-tale appearance of the splinter gruop of the Valley Raiders. This massive operation did not seem to notice them as they looked on, and it appeared that orders were being barked out by the cambions as people and fiends alike left through the various tunnels within the cavern and into the mountains.
Knowing that they would have no chance taking on a fight of this size, the party made their way back to Lire in muted states of worry. While Meepo's concern resided with Lire and the potential for an army to come through there or another attack to come for the town, some of the other party worried what this could mean for the fiends' relation to the Valley Raiders.
The party made their way back to the Tired Heart and pulled Immil asside to explain what they had seen. Clearly flustered with this information, Immil gathered those that she could and set Lire into motion. Meepo expressed to her that he thought Immil should evacuate or ask the Assembly for help, but Immil was adamant that her research in Lire was more important and that they had means of escape if it truly came to it. She also did not want to directly associate with the Assembly.
Immil's inability to seemingly understand the severity of the situation led some of the party to become frustrated with the dragonborn, but Immil reiterated that disrupting her research could prove dangerous. She felt more comfortable dealing with things herself here, and finally had the party sit down with her to reveal the finer bits of what they have uncovered.
Immil revealed to the party that though there have always been Twelve Champions, the Champions who reside in the pantheon now may not have always been the same as before the Shattering. She and her researchers uncovered evidence that there was a Champion known as Acadia, twin to Lorena, and the Champion of the arcane. In comparing texts from before the Shattering and afterward, Immil was further led to believe that Blancha, another of the Champions, may not have been in the pantheon before the Shattering, and perhaps that something happened between Acadia and Blancha that led to not only Blancha's ascension over Acadia, but also perhaps the Shattering itself. There was also some information found of a 'Brethren of Circles', which may have had some association with Blancha and perhaps her ascension, but Immil did not have much information in this regard.
Immil supsects and worries that Arrozus, a Forgotten Idol, may have obtained knowledge of Blancha's ascension and wants to use it for himself after being broken from his prison on the Material Plane. This may be why his followers are bent on destroying any knowledge of Acadia and any information from before the Shattering--so that they may use it and no one else may have that power as well.
However, if this information should come out, it has the potential to disrupt the Assembly of Concorde, Larmes, and Fragmentia's understanding of its history and divine entities, and Immil fears these consequences and what they could mean for the world.
Much of this, Immil explained, is still speculation, but that she believes the evidence she found is damning.
ifig then shared her two lockets with Immil, finding some disturbing connections in this information to what she has come to understand about the lockets. Immil says that the marks do line up on both maps and she has some concern about the mark in Larmes stating 'Here lies the Fragment', which she does not understand the meaning of.
Left with more questions now than answers, the party made their way back up to Klildesh's home to rest for the evening before venturing back into the Winding Passes to gain more information in the morning. Meepo wondered about the sword the party found in the two ruins earlier in their travels, while the others tried to draw together the puzzle pieces of the newest information they have come across.
How it all fits together, the party is left unsure, and with these thoughts, they rest another night before delving back into the fray another day.
Missions/Quests Completed
The party ventured into the Winding Passes and discovered a base of operations deep within the tunnels. They informed Fela about this information so that she and her task force might use it going forward in their dealings with the Valley Raiders.
Character(s) interacted with
Klildesh (Hunter in Lire) - A kind-spirited blue dragonborn who welcomed the party to stay in his home while they were working out of Lire. He is a hunter of some variety for the town and seems to return late and leave early. He lives at the edge of Lire, up in the Acadia Range itself near to the Winding Passes.
