Government
The Valriel family, a family of dragonborn sorcerers, operate the day-to-day affairs of the village. Immil Valriel is the head of this family and also the owner of the local inn. The Valriels are also responsible for communicating with the seven other major dragonborn families in the Acadia Range. They call on the other families for assistance in time of famine, attack, or natural disaster, and the dragonborn often help one another when necessary, though they run their own villages separately.
The Valriels believe that they can trace their lineage all the way back to Izod, the Champion of civilization. It is because of this that they have become the honorary leaders of the village.
Defences
The sorcerers look out for one another, but they are not fighters and they do not have an official guard here. In times of distress, they use their magic for means of protection. They do not have any walls, though they live slightly on the hills beneath the Acadia Range, which provides some natural defense from intruders.
Lire is technically under the protection of the Assembly of Concorde, however, they rarely call upon them for aid. They are more likely to request the help of the other dragonborn families in the Acadia Range or evacuate to Acadia instead, which lies deep in the mountains.
Industry & Trade
After the Shattering, the dragonborn became especially interested in preserving history and ancient texts. Most spend their lives as dedicated scribes, keeping track of Fragmentia's history and sending their work to be bound by the kobolds living in the Winding Passes. After the books have been bound, the dragonborn either send them to various locations requesting information throughout Fragmentia or they take them for further study at the ancient dragonborn city of Acadia.
Assets
The Tired Heart Inn/Tavern. Common accommodations.
After a recent incident involving fire, the Tired Heart is still in the process of being rebuilt. What was once a beautiful and large wood cabin with handcrafted furniture and relics dating before the Shattering, is now a bit ramshackle. Much of the new furniture was purchased in Concorde, not suiting the mountain style of the Acadia Range, and a majority of the building's structure had to be reconstructed, leading to a different color of wood in several locations. However, Immil Valriel has taken the renovations in stride and continues to provide some of the best hospitality in all of the Valley.
Guilds and Factions
The Archivists of Acadia
Many who call themselves scholars in Lire are also members of the Archivists of Acadia. Dragonborn are taught to read and write from a young age and are often involved in the research and scribing process as children. Though the structure of the Archivists in more rigid within Larmes itself, members in Lire are responsible for copying texts, putting together histories and geneologies, and research newly discovered texts and artifacts. Their findings are to be brought before either the Archivists in Larmes or the other dragonborn in Acadia before they may be distributed throughout Fragmentia or kept in the Archives of Acadia.
History
In 583 FP, Lire was brought under the protection of the Assembly of Concorde. In the beginning, the Valriels refused to accept being under the leadership of the Assembly, and the Assembly backed down for a time.
However, in 585 FP, the Valriels suffered a major loss of life during a horrifying winter period. Dragonborn either starved or froze to death, and it was too dangerous for the other families to come down from the mountains to provide assistance. They became so desperate for food and medicine that they had to call for the help of the Assembly.
Following that terrible winter, the dragonborn discovered kobolds living in the caves of the Acadia Range, caves filled with the perfect binding agents for their texts. The dragonborn were able to convince the kobolds to assistance them in a mutual exchange for help and support, and the relationship continued in this way for hundreds of years.
Geography
Lire sits in the shadow of the Acadia Range, home to a number of dormant volcanoes. The Acadia Range is the oldest mountain range in Fragmentia and is the only one to have survived the Shattering. Most of the village dots the lower hills of the Range, and little paths lead up toward the caves of the kobolds.
