Dawnberries

"What are these, but a gardener's chore? Glowing as ominously as they do... could they concern us? No for it is just a plant, oh how my mind wanders. Like how a doughty hero these little orbs persist in the holy story of life. No... what the hell am I doing... writing as if I were some esoteric philosopher that only thought to keep his sinking confidence afloat? Has the Regression truly taken such a toll on my mind? I'm but a geriatric old geezer. Perhaps some malicious deity resting upon its own realm has driven myself into turmoil just to satisfy his sick, damn desires? Dammit quit asking so many questions! A chariot rests upon the horizon occasionally, did you know that? Only I can see it though, it seats a pale white rider: Death. Oh, it seems I must once again return to my studies only to once again continue writing my obituary and will. My servant is calling me, I might just review my private library to see why I can only see this charioteer and his unholy and impure vessel." - Sinnsyk

Basic Information

Anatomy

The bush is quite small and easy to miss during the day as the hidden bush does not illuminate as much. It has very short roots with many light green and sharp leaves. The berries give off a bright yellow glow and are sometimes mistaken to be lightning bugs; or the other way around. The berries are edible and are said to have a tangy flavor and to imbue your body with a cozy warmth.

Ecology and Habitats

For Dawnberries to grow to their greatest shine and size it must usually grow in a warm, humid climate. Flat ground is preferred but the bush can tolerate hilly terrain.

Biological Cycle

The berries shrivel black during the winter season, yet they do not fall off unprovoked. If they are still attached, they will grow back to their normal, robust appearance.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Most of the Dawnberry bush population lies in Fredelig; the isolated settlement. Though due to pure luck, the berries managed to make their way to Caesellius Vindex through minimal ship travel. So some bushes do exist in Vindexian territory, but they are limited and the berries are expensive.

Common Myths and Legends

Forverret legend describes direct contact, consumption, or presence around Dawnberries will cause insanity in due time. The insane squabbling of Sinnsyk, (or "Sin Sick" as political rivals referred to him) is what's to thank for this misconception. He was a government official that worked for a past Jarl while he was sane. During a voyage meant as an attempt to make peace with the Vindexians Sinnsyk came into contact with the Tower Mages. After an undisclosed meeting, he was described to have weird ticks or manic episodes at random. Shortly after his return he was diagnosed with the Forverret Regression. His insanity only grew worse as time went on and as he grew older. His writings would usually start out describing something like a poem (Dawnberries were his most popular topic due to their "ominous" glow). He would also repeatedly interrupt himself whilst describing a chariot with Death riding it. Meanwhile, Vindexians see no problem with Dawnberries.
