The chuntu are conical formations at the very top of slender mountains in Runa Terra. They resemble square-based pyramids sanded with thick windblown dust that leave light gray-and-white murals swirled and spun into dim patterns that correspond to echoing sounds. They are an entirely natural formation, but their unusualness leads many to believe that they are an artificial construct of the Kang.
The music was all around them.
Calling with unearthly voices.
Touching them.
Playing with their hair.
Booming and beckoning passion like thunder.— verse from "Dying of the Light"
The spires are elongated and slender. Their forms offer a spectacular visual culmination of the natural choral musical that come from the multi-level winds striking the pyramid at just the right angles.
Cold
The area around the chuntu is described as inhospitable and harsh. The pyramids experience extreme cold and long, dark winters. The climate is characterized by frigid temperatures, icy landscapes and unpredictable weather patterns. Visitors can face a struggle to survive in the high altitude and desolate environment.

Varillas: A flying, cylindrical creature that lacks discernible limbs, wings or other prominent features.
Nuna Runa
The chuntus are so isolated that no eyes other than the flying Nuna Runa can ever see them.
Such people might occasionally camp, atop and around, the pyramids as a group retreat. More unfortunately are those to travel there and experience such intense waves of melancholy that drives them into 'forgetting to fly'.
