Union of Hope

"Let's face it, bud: our lives are short, dirty and painful. Some use that as an excuse to be assholes. Others try and make that existence a bit less asshole-ish for others."

The Union of Hope is a mostly non-violent rebel group active in large parts of the Decay Belt area. Their work revolves around providing aid and charity to the poorest in the southeast, particularly Fringetown citizens with no employment or income.
Their main base of operations is the walled-in village of Scavenger's Hope, considered by the organization to be an autonomous town. The label "rebel group" is one often applied to them because of the supposed takeover and claiming of Fortune City territory, even though the group doesn't explicitly oppose the government or any societal structure in particular - some might even say they contribute to added order and peace in the chaotic Decay Belt area, because of their extensive aid distribution to its inhabitants. The Union only uses violence defensively and in moderation, almost exclusively to evict people from Scavenger's Hope who don't follow the local code of conduct: "Don't cause harm for your own gain".

Structure

The Union of Hope follows a fully democratic structure, with no single leader - a new "council" of about 10 people is voted for each month, who have more control over aid management. However, their vote and opinion is valued equally to every other member's at the Gathering.
Any decision relating to the organization is done monthly at the previously mentioned Gathering, a public meeting in the Scavenger's Hope town square which anyone can attend. During the week prior to the Gathering, the public can propose questions that should be discussed at the meeting. These are then voted on, mostly by show of hands. New members of the Union are also formally accepted during the Gathering.
