It's decided that we will start this session with a short rest….we pitoned the door of the ceremonial room and then I stood guard while the others sought to heal and rejuvenate. Fearful and not wanting to push our luck of possibly being ambushed while trying to rest, we begin to proceed through the castle. We come across a room where our scouts Mairon and Roscoe had heard talking while invisibly exploring the castle earlier in our campaign.

We want to draw them out to us in this storage area so that we don't have to walk into that room blindly - not knowing who or how many of our foe await us in there.

Our wizard comes up with the brilliant idea of his acting as prey to draw the targets out of the room and into the storage room where the rest of us would hide. As a result, we are able to get a surprise attack on every single member of the opposing force as they rush in blindly after him. We were able to defeat a Doppelganger in the guise of a female Drow, a wolf, and a Bugbear.

Our next endeavor is in the prison chamber where two Goblins stand guard over Gundren Rockseeker. We are successful in killing both, and so we rescue Gundren.

We now continue on to the south tower where we encounter an enraged Owl Bear being held there against its will. (I love Owl Bears!) As he desires no more than being able to escape, we let him rush past us and out of the room to his freedom. We then spy a ledge above us holding a treasure chest. Hmmmm...

Roscoe climbs up to it and brings down gold, silver, a healing potion, a scroll of silence, and a scroll of revivify. Both scrolls were given to our cleric Carnak. All of the healing potions are distributed, and coinage was equally divided.

After road fights and castle fights, I am glad to report that we had an uneventful return trip to Phandalin.

The group separates once more for carrying out various business errands - weapon repair, maintenance of armor, loot being sold, and Elbon returning to Sildar Hallwinter his armor and sword. He bestows a 500G reward upon us. We try to refuse, but he insists. We also find that once his strength was regained, he had replaced the town leader and taken their place.

This is not a problem, because Elbon has the same goals of prosperity and stability for Phandalin as Hallwinter, but no desire to sit in cabinet while battles await. We see the township is in much better hands and already showing signs of stability and prosperity
