Except for Joseph and Derek, this is the first time for any of the group to play D&D. Due to this fact, Joseph has prepared characters from which we may choose. These characters' race, class, abilities, and statistics have already been determined. We just need to choose which one we would like to embody during the campaign. He has also let us know that D&D is not a turn based game in the traditional sense. While we are doing our thing, our enemies will be doing the same. (ie., We decide to camp for the night instead of traveling right away to the village we want to protect. During the night, our enemies attack the hamlet, kill the people living there, and ravage all of the homes - because we did not get there in time to protect it.) Our enemies won't wait on us.
During this session, basic rules and tactics were discussed. As the DM, Joseph's decisions will need to be abided by when made. He will be the final authority for questions, disputes, and general game play. We will be using D&D 5th Edition for setting most of our standards and guidelines.
We were informed that all future sessions will be parts of the story that we move along by making group decisions, by taking group actions, and by engaging in group adventures - with the DM as our narrator/guide.
From this time forward, we will generally meet the last Saturday night of each month at 17:00, unless holidays or other agreed upon situations cause us to move the date.
We also took the opportunity to assign general duties, our marching order, and our watch order (to be used during resting periods).
