Awakening in the early morning after an uneventful, full night’s rest, we begin our adventure with Mimi’s new alter ego, Skitter the rat. Skitter will take over scouting duties from Thorn. I guess the final thought is that Mimi did what she was purposed to do - protect us. The problem was we had all come to think of her as so much more than a summons. Maybe that is why Mairon summoned a rat this time. I imagine it will be hard to become really attached to something that looks like a rat.

We come to a doorway where we can view phosphorus fungus and “puff balls”. Mairon is able to determine that these are poisonous as well as the gas rising off of them. Not daring to venture into the room, we continue to move forward.

We then happen upon a storage room full of empty, rotted, dirty and broken kegs. We pass by. Onward we proceed from there through a hallway to an altar room. It is here that we find some more ghouls and they decide to make a meal of our new scout, Skitter. Well, he didn't last long, and I'm thinking they went hungry. Do summons have any real body?

Mairon then creates a series of sound and fire waves to draw them out. Two succumb when we are able to take them down outside of the room. Mairon then dashes into the room where we end up fighting the last six. We successfully vanquish them as well. Various members are paralyzed from time to time, but we finished in fairly good health.
We then take a full rest in the storage room full of kegs where we piton the only doorway while we try to regain the feeling in our arms and legs from being paralyzed, and also so our wounds can heal. Afterwards, we vote to a man to continue in our quest to locate Nundro in hopes of finding him alive. Out the door and back to exploring the cave.

Our next battle proves to be our hardest yet. We enter a room containing nine zombies and a floating skull which instantly casts a fire spell upon us. Roscoe, Thorn and Carnak are all knocked unconscious by the deadly blow. I then throw my javelin at the skull and hit with my first attempt, but the javelin burns. My second attempt misses completely.

Attempting to cross the room for cover while also gaining better positioning against the zombies, Mairon is rendered unconscious.

I stand at the doorway absorbing blows from the zombies and skull providing my comrades a living shield, if you will. I go down, and Carnak raises me back up. Down, heal, down, heal...the cycle repeats itself until the zombies have been at last defeated. Finally, Aldan is able to shoot a silver arrow which makes its mark and shatters the skull.

After holding back for as long as he could, Thorn tries to rush a healing potion to Mairon, but is too late. Alas, we have lost our beloved wizard whose lively wit and intuition contributed so very much to our adventures. We will also miss his prowess in battle, casting spells which created enemy carnage tolls that often tilted the battles our way. But his laugh as well as his bravery and wit are irreplaceable.

We retreat back to the keg room where we once again pursue a much needed rest period for our battle worn, bruised bodies. I was pretty much the only one receiving heals, and we have all been reduced quite a bit. We will take the rest, but we can't wait long. All of us are now anxious about finding Theron's cousin alive. It is determined that we will start out again as soon as possible.
