The Geography of the World

Dirt, Air and Water

Dirt
Arkos started as matter confined by two horizontal planes, which created two surfaces of the world. In some vertical distance is a passage to the realm Magus. This passage is called {Light}. There is another passage, called Darkness, in the middle of the the world. Darkness connects Arkos to Magus like {Light}. But Magic came only through Darkness into Arkos and spread it's roots all across the world. The plain got heated and eventually turned into molten stone. At that point Magic almost cut the connection at {Darkness}. Only one branch remains, where energy to hold the land together get into Arkos. The Magic shrunk to use it's energy concentrated on the creation of the world. Magic created minerals, stones, metals and elements, while the world slowly cooled. Where Magic withdrawed, the land rose into large mountains and where Magic accumulated the land crumbled and fell into trenches.
Air
After that Ether decided to makes things more interesting and {Light} started to circle around {Darkness}. The daylight cycle is defined by the movement of {Light}. This passage emits light and it only illuminates the landscape of Arkos. On the surface illuminated by {Light} it is day and on the other side it is night. But there is a moment, where {Light} moves through the world and on both sides is night. This period of time is called twilight. In Arkos stars doesn't exist, but during the day small shards and debris break of {Light} and fade slowly away on their way down to the surface. These shards form a trail behind {Light} and can be seen during the night. The movement of {Light} differs each day. Over the course of a year the path oscillate around the day where there are no shadows. This day is called Shadowfall. Shadowfall repeats every 256th day. To enliven the world Ether created small particles to rush with various speeds over the landscape. These paricles form the atmosphere and the movement of the particles is called wind. In some parts of the atmosphere, the particles are so strong, that they carry or even rip debris or rubble from the landscape.
Water
To hold the landscape together, wetten and split the landscape into sections Ether created a plasm to flow over the surface. This plasm has a loose crystal sructure hence the name-crystilline. It filled the deep trenches and the deep fields to create the ocean. From that ocean continents stick out. These continents show small basins in which the crystilline moves from the highest mountain tops back into the ocean. Around those basins, called rivers, fertile fields and hills, wetlands and more bioms arise. The location of these bioms is influenced by magic. Hot bioms like the volcanic mountains Magic accumulated in deep under the mountain and with it's heat the stone turned back to lava. Also the bioms are influenced by the location of {Light}. The closer Magic is to {Light} and Darkness, the more heat it outputs. That creates four seasons of nature. One season is roughly 128 days long.

The Four Continents

The Civilisations

The following civilisations were created as a small community in the named positions, but with time, exploration and mainly trade these mixed up. In their home region they probably make up to a maximum of half the population. Thats why most civilisations welcome outlanders. {Every civilitsation has or will get their own page where you can find their more trivia like their legends or generally behavior.}
  • The Ancients are believed to be a lost civilisation. The leftovers of their cities can be found in every part of Arkos, but most of the time their hard to reach. But these leftovers aren't torn by time into ruins. Many expeditions of the living folks tried to explain this, but with no success. Also the architecture is strange. The biggest city was beneath the volcano and it houses a industrial district with advanced machinery.

  • Caplings are a mushroom like species from Cohrmas. Their first community were around 100 people big and they couldn't die of age. But every scion of them lived only up to 130 Years. The number of days in their years count two shadowfalls. The innovations and ideas of the new generations the old Caplings slowly isolated them onto the volcano. The young Caplings with their exploration urge they were the first to visit different civilisations and help them to amend the way of working.

  • Steamcaps are a new species to Arkos. They were first developed by the Caplings after the exploration of ancient ruins in the heart of the volcano on Cohrmas. They are steam-powered automatons with their own will. They look, due to their builders, like caplings, but it can vary heavily based on their profession. To use the Steamheads most efficiently in the factories, they can have anchor points to connect directly with the machines. They basically can't die of old age, but they need steam cells as an energy source and they need to clean of the oxidation.

  • Croaksare froglike and come from the wetlands located on the east coast of Fenria. They are good diplomats and merchants.

  • Wisparins come from the treetops of the jungle in Fenria.

  • Loxunns are tusked giants. They come form the wooded hilly lands south west of {the great mountain range} in fenria. They are open minded and care for the smaller folks.

  • Humans come from Ideun. Their oganisatorial structure is small and they are masters of warfare.

  • Feluhs are catlike and come from Dourune.
