Cityscape

The city started north of the Gvichnot river. Now it is the old part of the city. It is called Nottwary. It has the harbour, fisher and farmer houses in it. Another part of this part is the old Pekctor castle. The new part on the north side of the Gvichnot is the bastion Bastnas with its harbour. The north side is connected via three bridges with the southern side. The first is the old bridge which connects Nottwary with Pesek. The latter is a district with many farmers, but now many middle class residents like merchants and overseers from the industry. The second bridge, the Harbour Bridge, connects the east harbour and the Bastnas with the industry. The third bridge goes from Bastnas to the industry many to save citizen in case of a breakthrough by attackers. South of Pesek stands the Cohrmasian Castle. It is the second biggest defensiv facility in Bastavpekc built in the Cohrmasian Era. East of the Cohrmasian Castle is Slnikzemi. There are many shops from craftsmen, but also many old rebuilt shops from crafts lost due to the steam industry. It also is the district for education and science in Bastavpekc. It is connected to the industry and in between those two is the Kopac. It is the organ for organizing the science in the crafts and industry in the city. South the industry is the district Chuds with sordid and crooked houses. To defend the city against attacks from the south the city has built the Nadej Castle which got the nickname Fenrien Fear.

Development of the City

It is the part of the city which was build in the times of the old Pekctor Barony. Many buildings are from that time. The same applies for the Pekctor Castle. It has two parts. An east part with the palace for the baron and the west part as a defensiv castle. The harbour is located east of the district and touches the bastion. With more and more people setteling in this part of the Gvichnot the limited area had run out. Then the people especially farmers settled on the other side. To connected them with the protected city they constructed the first bridge. This bridge was made from roots of orenciak. In case of an attack the bridge could set on fire to slow down the attacker.
With the addition of craftsmen which started to develop around the beginning of the Empire Cohrmas the city didn't want to sacrifice the south part of the city. And as the capital of the Empire it build the Cohrmasian Castle. This was bigger than the Pekctor Caslte and very ellaborat. The construction of it needed 31 years. In the years as the capital of the Empire Cohrmas the city grew steadily. It expanded north and south of the river to the east until the city councillor prohibited the expansion to the east. After that the city grew to the south. For that the city built a new and wide city wall, but the relocation of the capital of Cohrmas to Rajdova Velky halted the continuous growth and with that the construction of the wall. After multiple years the Guild was founded. It was located between the farmer huts and the crafts building. The Guild is for the invention of new crafts techniques and innovations. It also acts as an organising facility of crafting. With the time the Guild got more and more power in the city. After the fall of the Empire the Guild puts the councillor in place.
The shortcomming of food in Ostrunic after the fall of the Empire resulted in a population decline of the city. The new goverment of Ostrune concentrated more on expanding the big cities. With that the city resumed the old city wall projekt and invested in the crafts. The funding of the crafts resulted in many people from the surrounding villages settling in the south of the crafts. This are the Chuds. Bastavpekc grew and florished in the time of the island states.
When the invasion started the city started to build a new castle to protect the south. Everyone should help to protect the city. The Nadej was finished 21 days before the fenrien army got there. With these three castles and the wall the city had enough defenses to withstand the early attacks and it was besieged. After a few years a part of the wall of the Nadej Castle got a breach but the defender hold the city. In this years the military from the Free Isles came to free the city. Then the city rebuild the defenses and it became the capital of the Free Isles. The war itself ended in a stalemate and Bastavpekc started to resettle the population east of the harbour to build a bastion to hold parts of the population and to safeguard the goverment. The relocated population were put in newbuilt multistory houses in the Pesek. The newest change in the cityscape is the new industrial district which emerged from the riverside crafts district. Now the industrial district stretches to the backside of Kopac.
