Dragon Worship

Dragon Worship is a loosely organized set of religious sects found primarily within kobold and Archipelagan society, though it also includes fringe groups across the world (most notably lizardfolk in the Cyraneed Empire). These sects venerate dragons as divine beings- gods whose natural power, intelligence, and longevity mark them as the rightful rulers of all mortal races. While specific doctrines vary between groups, all members of the faith believe in the supremacy of dragons and view servitude to them as spiritual duty. Worship often involves ritual offerings and the protection and expansion of a dragon’s hoard.

A core tenet of Dragon Worship is the prophecy that when the largest hoard of gold and treasure in the world is assembled, the great ancient father of all dragons, an unfathomably powerful creature will awaken. This event is seen as the fulfillment of the natural order, after which dragons will reclaim dominion over the earth and guide the world through ice, fire, wealth, and strength. Kobold sects dedicate their lives to hoarding treasure, either through mining, theft, or tribute, believing their work brings the awakening closer.

Though not unified under a single church or hierarchy, Dragon Worshippers often cooperate across sects when treasure is involved or when defending dragonkind. Their temples are usually hidden, often carved into stone beneath mountains or jungles, filled with gold idols, obscure objects of value, and magical artifacts. Outsiders often view Dragon Worship as fanatical or dangerous since it involves a lack of mortal sovereignty.

O great Scaled Ones, shining lords of sky and flame, we kneel in dust and shadow to honor your majesty. To Vorthaz the Burning Maw, grant us your wrath to strike our foes. To Silissatra the Gilded Coil, bless our hoards and guide our greedy claws. To Myrrith the Silent Sky, cloak us in your unseen wings and guard us from the eyes of the unworthy. To Draskhul the Stone-Eater, lend your strength to break the bones of earth and dig deeper still. To Zenthrix the Night Ember, watch over us in the dark and whisper to us secrets old and forgotten. May our offerings please you. May our work hasten the rise of the First Father. May your rule return, and may we crawl at your claws forever- as is our destiny.
