Khuzba (K-usb-a)
Khuzba- Known as the mountain watchers or the Rangers of the dwarven people. Less of an organized unit and more of an organization, the Karaki protect the dwarven borders by eliminating all potential threats before they reach the walls and deep into the mountains. Serving also as the kingdom's scouts, they report possible threats, changes, and the setting of traps across all of Toril.
(Fighters, Rangers, Paladins, Clerics, but mostly Ranger)
A renowned organization of rangers the Khuzba, strike fear into any who see them. Few of their enemies live to tell tales about them and even fewer outsiders can claim to really know or befriend them. Often seen as hooded figures walking alone in the wilderness, they remain silent and secretive even to their closest non-dwarven friends.
Often only seen in dwarven towns and outposts the Khuzba rangers serve as the frontline of the dwarven defenses, patrolling the borders whether they be frozen mountain peaks or great deserts. Outside dwarven society the Karaki are little more than rumors and rare sightings when one enters the surrounding towns and villages for supplies or information.
First appearing in the sword mountains, the Khuzba protected the Khazadit and Khazadkar borders for generations before spreading across the realm. They now serve any and all dwarven cities and kingdoms along the borders as a part of their defensive forces and primarily border enforcers. Seeking little payment outside the occasion desire for ale and good equipment, the Khuzba live to honor dwarven society from the sidelines having spent decades in service of their people. They often make enough money through hunting and taking the occasional quest to remove monsters and dangerous animals from the surrounding region.
They are often compared to the other ranger organization across the realm but do not associate themselves with them, preferring to side with dwarven society. Despite this, the organization does have great respect for the environment and nature as a whole, as their lifestyle depends on the wilderness they protect and are often the first to speak up in defense of the current situation regarding the wild frontier. For it is that very same wilderness that protects the dwarven people.
Some members have been seen with animal companions to support their endeavors, with some subbranches requiring their recruits to find a companion/mount to increase their ability and effectiveness. Usually, companions are living creatures but exceptions to this rule do exist and can be found under the right conditions.
The Total number of Khuzba members remains a secret of utmost importance to the Khazad but most speculate anywhere between 10,000 and 1,000,000 of these rangers patrol the wilds and borders of the Khazadkar and Khazadit.
Khuzban recruitment
The Khuzba begin their official recruitment practices when a dwarf reaches the age of 50, being recognized as an adult, but many schools and outposts often will take in willing youngsters to give practice, test their ability, and prepare them for the life that they seek. applicants will undergo two years of training, and half a year in basic survival and defense training.
In order to be accepted in the Khuzba dwarves must first prove their ability and valor by surviving one complete year in the wilderness and bringing back a creature's pelt or head as proof of their ability to survive beyond assistance. after their year in solitude, the second half of their training will begin with advanced survival, advanced defense and offensive tactics, sabotage, monster hunting training, and other practices being taught to the trainees that remain. After this grueling process often the new trainees will spend one decade with a mentor to continue learning the aspects of being a ranger, important secrets, and valuable lessons. Upon completing this decade of mentorship a dwarf is then expected to serve 50 years in service before one can begin mentoring other dwarves. It is expected that any given Ranger will mentor between 5-10 dwarves in their lifetime, but some will mentor 20 and some 2. The only requirement is that upon a dwarf's first centennial in the organization they accept a mentorship over a successful trainee, that they choose.
Some recruits wait years or decades before being chosen for mentorship, as they are chosen by the potential mentors, and are not promised anything. Often mentors and apprentices will form great bonds of friendship and sometimes large groups of rangers will form outposts in the wilderness only known to fellow rangers as safe locations and centers of operations.
