Neverwinter Stories: Heirs of Delzoun — Session 5

The Forge of Fury – Chapter Five: Standoff on the Trail

General Summary

Imbim scouted ahead as a beast after the Heirs of Delzoun overheard a shouting match. She returned and reported a standoff between two armed forces. After learning the side with a hostage was orcs, the Heirs rushed forward, catching the orcs off guard in a surprise attack. The assault was decisive; Old Yarrack and his forces were routed without a single dwarven casualty.
There was some initial weariness with the side the adventurers supported. The Heirs suspected, rightfully so, they were bandits. But tensions were eased when Brulnan Stedz thanked them for their help and offered information. Our heroes accepted and learned the routed orcs called themselves the Bloodytooth Clan. Their leader was Old Yarrack, but someone called the Great Ulfe had brought them into the area recently.
After a short rest and a peaceful parting with the bandits, the Heirs debated on whether they should pursue the orcs or continue to Ovostask's lair. Orreft and Imbim wrestled to settle the impasse. The dwarf won, and so the adventurers followed the orc's trail until they arrived at the Stone Tooth. With a bit of exploration, they discovered two possible entrances: an ancient switchback trail and a chimney. Not knowing what lay below, the Heirs descended the shaft while Baldir investigated the trail.

Rewards Granted

Orreft and Imbim scaled the Stone Tooth. The vista, grand and sweeping, granted them inspiration.

Missions/Quests Completed

After months of preparation and travel, the Heirs of Delzoun finally arrived at the Stone Tooth.

Character(s) interacted with

After surprise attacking and routing Old Yarrack, the adventurers were somewhat enlighted by Brulnan Stedz about the politics of the mountain. Uroga, another, very young bandit, excitedly asked about their history of fighting monsters.

Notes

  • One of the bandits referred to their boss as "The Weevil." This is a reference to Worvil "the Weevil", thus revealing these bandits belonged to the Forkbeard Family.
  • At the scene of the standoff, there were wagons filled with minerals, mining tools, and a few dead miners. While it wasn't clear who killed them, Brulnan offered some of their merchandise as part of the reward for supporting him. The adventurers didn't accept it or simply forgot—there was no definitive answer.
  • In order to make the wrestling match fairer, Imbim transformed into a bear. This bearly helped.
  • There was almost a lethal accident while scaling the peak of the Stone Tooth.
