Enlil
Mechanics & Inner Workings
Enlil is chaotic good with Intelligence 15, Wisdom 12, and Charisma 10, and has normal vision and hearing to a range of 60 feet. It communicates by transmitting emotion, often expressing excitement and inspiring curiosity in its owner when something intriguing is afoot. You gain a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon, as well as to Intelligence (History) checks.
Enlil lends its senses to aid in any search as best it can. You have advantage on Intelligence (Investigation) checks while holding it. Enlil's mithral blade never gets dirty and sheds a pale blue-white glow like moonlight (considered dim light with a 5-foot radius), just enough for you to read text and make out details up close when in darkness. You can suppress the glow at will without an action. However, Enlil will transmit disappointment, growing into anger, if you fail to indulge its curiosity. If you refuse three opportunities to seek out a secret in a row, conflict occurs at the third refusal and every refusal thereafter. If the sword wins the conflict, it typically withholds its bonuses until you return to its good graces.
History
Enlil is a sentient fey shortsword with an insatiable curiosity for learning secrets. It is a dedicated seeker of secrets and lore, content to live vicariously through a clever owner that is engaged in exploring mysteries of any sort.
Ironically, Enlil is quite the mystery itself. No document of its origins has ever been found, and divination magic that delves into its past only reveals stories of former owners. The oldest of such stories often involve ancient intrigues in the High Seelie courts of the Feywild. Fey lords have sometimes raised an eyebrow when they notice Enlil in their midst, but will say nothing and will not engage in conversation about it. The use of magic such as legend lore on Enlil has been known to impart secrets about the fey courts that is often surprisingly relevant to the worker of the magic, leading to speculation that Enlil itself influences the information revealed.
