Life, Achievement/ Win
After killing Halaster, each individual made their wish. The tower began to collapse as Halaster attempted to bring it down on their heads with his last breath. Beelz realized he could seize the Knot to save his friends. He did so, protecting them from danger as they fled Undermountain. See full text for wishes & endings.
You stand back on firm ground, safely out of Undermountain. The rumbling of the dungeon is deafening at first, but over long minutes it fades away. The silence stretches as you wait for Beelz to escape. You wait for a minute...for an hour...then for two. The days stretch into weeks. Beelz never returns.
Eventually you divvy up your loot and go your separate ways, your time as the Contestants of Undermountain at an end.
Zar'ryth's band of Gith eventually make their way to other members of the Sha'sal Khou. They ensure that the knowledge of her sacrifice is never forgotten among her people. Though the denizens of the Prime may not realize the dangers of the Far Realms, the Gith understand them better than anyone. Her example motivates many to set aside their differences and focus on the aberrations that are their common foes.
You stand outside the gates of Waterdeep as a contingent of 30 heavily armed dwarves marches towards you in perfect unison. They are each in the distinctive adamantine plate of the Hammers of Moradin, the elite defenders of Dwarven halls. At their head, the banner of the Melairkyn dwarves rustles in the wind. They stop before you, and the entire column goes to one knee. Their leader reverently raises a heavy tome towards you: The Dammaz Kron. "High King Khelmon Grudgebearer, the Hammers of Moradin are yours to command." Behind them you see a dust column rising from the marching boots of dwarves, come from all across Toril to answer your call.
The crusade for Melairbode has begun.
A halfling, once called Perlos, awakes in a Waterdhavian inn. He's not quite sure how he got there...the last thing he remembered was being in Undermountain, feeling something wriggling inside him. Over the next few days, he carefully explores the city. It seems...he died. Which means that the charges against him are dropped! He's a free man!
Perlos never discovers what god chose to give him a second crack at life, but he vows not to waste it. He changes his name and takes legitimate work as a covert operative for a noble far from Waterdeep. He is eventually able to get Grel and Ilinar positions as well (both of whom were shocked to hear from their dead friend). It isn't exactly the restoration of his family's honor Grel had hoped for, but it would do.
As for Toast, you continue to wage your war against plants. Starting with a particular forest you have vowed to destroy. Wyllowwood won't know what hit it.
Your daughter grows more beautiful, strong, and intelligent by the day. She blossoms into the sort of woman that comes along once in a generation. With her grace and cunning backed by your diplomatic acumen and magical abilities (and considerable wealth), the two of you become a force to be reckoned with in the city.
No matter how high you climb on the social ladder, though, you often find yourself back in the Yawning Portal, telling stories to Volo and watching new adventurers go down into the well. It just doesn't feel right to stay away too long.
The wealth you take up from Undermountain would be sufficient to open many doors for your noble House. You instead use it to open the granaries. House Lightstorm becomes synonymous with kindness and generosity. Your steward cautions that you that you cannot solve every problem. You tell him that you intend to try.
Once Undermountain has calmed itself, you return to its darkened halls until you find a certain Stone Giant's lair. You slip through the shadows towards the sound of music. Xorta plays the flute while the rest of the family sings and dances. The steps are complicated, but at their center is Ghnorsh, the son they had lost, now restored to them.
You watch their unbridled joy with a satisfied smile. Perhaps you cannot solve every problem...but you solved this one.
Beelz, you watch your friends rise out of Undermountain on the platform into the Yawning Portal with satisfaction. As they get to safety you realize the ground underneath you is still shaking. As soon as you think of it, the rumbling throughout Undermountain stops.
You reach out with your arcane senses and realize you can see the way your master intended to twist your friend's wishes. You undo those twists and ensure the wishes are granted as intended. They've earned their reward.
You are about to leave Undermountain to join your friends when you hear a faint whisper. You instinctively look to Halaster's corpse...but no, he's still dead. Then you understand. It's the Knot, and it's speaking to you! As you survey the destruction of Undermountain you think to yourself that the Knot is right...You can rebuild Undermountain! You can make it better! And this time...you can be the hero!"
With a grin, you think that if Khelmon can get a new name for finding some dusty old book, surely you can get a new name for conquering Undermountain! But what should you call yourself? You pause for a moment, then the answer is clear. A giggle escapes your lips. Then a chuckle. "After all...the show must go on." Tears stream from your eyes as the halls ring with the sound of mad laughter once more.
Halaster Blackcloak is reborn.
