Monk Sneak Attacks

Monk unarmed strikes are not considered finesse weapons and can therefore not trigger sneak attacks (PHB p. 78).

House Rule

Monk unarmed strikes are considered finesse weapons. Extra attacks granted by either Martial Arts or Flurry of Blows cannot trigger sneak attacks.

Rationalization/Reason for the rule

At a certain level, using an unarmed strike is functionally equivalent to using a monk weapon. The monk should be able to use whichever they prefer. However, simply making the unarmed strikes finesse weapons would make give them many more opportunities to trigger sneak attack, compared to a similarly leveled rogue.
