SKT: Session 3: Battles for Nightstone
General Summary
So penned by mine own hand,Chapter the third: The Viper’s Last Breath and the Howl of the Horde
Steel clashed and blood darkened the stones of Nightstone’s gate as battle erupted in a violent storm of steel and spell. Xolkin Alassandar, cunning and cruel, tipped back a vial of shimmering liquid—a potion of invulnerability, or so he believed. Yet fate, ever fickle, wove a different tale. The Seven Snakes struck, their blades seeking flesh, but the defenders of Nightstone stood unshaken. Guards braced against the onslaught, shielding the Goblin Gwerk as the party wove through the fray like wolves among sheep. One by one, the brigands fell. Kella Darkhope, the deceiver, found herself unmade by the very violence she had invited into this place. Seeing his beloved perish, Xolkin’s calm shattered. With a bellow of rage, he threw himself at his foes, seeking vengeance with reckless abandon. But the gods did not favor him this day. He, too, fell, his lifeblood soaking the dirt, his ambition crumbling to dust. Two riders, seeing their cause lost, sought to flee, their steeds kicking up the earth in desperation. Yet even the wind could not outrun Azure’s magic. Like the sky’s fury made manifest, his spells struck true, and the last of the Seven Snakes lay still upon the ground. With the battle won, the heroes turned to rest, for war-weary bones must mend before the next trial. But the night was brief, and dawn’s light brought a new horror. A distant tremor, the thunder of hooves and heavy boots, a sound that set the heart to racing. They climbed the towers, peering beyond the walls, and beheld the tide of death that surged toward them. Orcs.
Not mere raiders, but butchers adorned with their cruel trophies—severed elven ears strung like beads, their chieftain a monstrous sight, his body bristling with elven arrows, yet undaunted. They came with the fury of a storm, the hunger of wolves, and the bloodlust of beasts long denied their slaughter. Nightstone’s reprieve was over. The battle had only just begun.
