5. Adventure - The giant Bat and the Reaper
5. Adventure
The group has returned to Iverbent to check out how much time has passed and how the world has changed.
Finding a wide field filled with remains of a previous battle, the group discovers the city to be have only minimal signs of life. Much of the city is in ruins and the group has only dared to sneak inside when the group carefully checks out the city's inside. Oxton himself has done so by letting his fluffy familiar run ahead, seeing through its lovely rabbit's eyes while being carried by Sable, the walking armour. It was an interesting experience for Oxton to have himself be carried and tell his group what his familiar sees, acting as a scout while he is carried behind. On the bright side it taught him how to fully utilize his bond, growing the distance he can hold with his familiar, training to handle with having two sets of senses at the same time. Maybe he would never need it, but to be able to know and experience what his familiar knows and experience wherever it is, is nevertheless a fun trick for him to possess.
As his and the group's scouting mission reveals a number of survivers living in a shut and barricaded city centre, the group enters the survivor camp through either the roofings or housings. Once they finally made contact we discovered approcimately 25 years have passed since we entered the underground tunnel and Serendipity has touched her icosahendron. The city has barely survived its attack and siege by an enemy army, leaving only little survivors, minimal food, and ruins. Those who remain are lft with a heavy, depressing atmosphere, fighting to survive every day. To make matters worse the party's goal to gather information is thus hindered because most of the city's recordings, like the library, are destroyed. To make matters worse, the city's hospital is overflowing with badly injured people., many of which show signs of being mauled or clawed by some beast. Of course, Oxton being unable to ignore such distress and agony, immediately sets out to heal and treat as many people as he can, be it with magic or with his hands. Stitching up gaping, bleeding wounds, rightening broken bones, treating those sweating and breathing heavily in their fever dreams, and cleaning out those wounds that appear as if someone tried to eat them alive. Time and time again, for an entire day, only resting when he would collapse otherwise and only drinking when his throat hurts, Oxton has tried to heal them.
But it is all for anught. For every person he saves it feels like two more die. For every wound he stitches up, injured with three more wounds arrive. The situation appears hopeless. It is... frustrating. Not that he would openly say it or start attacking those inncocent just to get it off his chest.
"Where are all these injured comming from?"
When he inquired the locals about this they told him the all come from north-west. An unknown beast has been terrizing the survivors which try to procur food. The best way to help them would be to hunt down the monster that has been terrorizing the city. Everyone in the group viws it similar. The solution is simple. Find the beast and kill it. With that plan in mind the group visits the hopsital the next morning to gather intel about the beast. As luck would habe it, a woman carrying a deeply injured man rushes in, having seen the beast. It is a amonstrous, black, flying thing, attacking those alone on their way in and out of the city. Knowing what they have to deal with, the group quickly procurs nets to throw on the beast, to keep it from flying away and head for the north-western part of the city. Once on our way north-west Oxton's familiar and Nabi spot a small shadow, that might have just been an imagination, up in the sky. Following the direction their group members think they ave seen something, seeing as they have nothing better to do, the group enters the city's ruins, crawling over rubble and broken housings. Because of the difficult terrain, the party slowly distances itself more and more from each other. To prevent a complete split, Nabi and Cid wait for Serendipity and Oxton, climbing the buildings and watching the city. It is at this moment a massive monster with leathery skin, leather wings, arm like legs and a teethless maw lands on a building next to the main street. What follows is probably one of the most chaotic fights Oxton has ever partaken in.
The enemy turns out to be an undead with unclear intentions, riding a giant bat-like monster. It had proven itself a worthy adversary, and for the first time in his life Octon was hesitant to heal his partners during the fight.
After all, every bit of his godesses divine healing energy he is going to spend here on minor scratches and bruises will be power he will miss to heal those heavily wounded in the hospital.
Despite being a healer, Oxton suddenly found himself in a fight where he was not allowed to heal.
After a chatoic fight against a giant bat with an undead skeleton rider wielding a scythe, we chased it away, killing the bat that turned into black smoke, leaving its rider to fall down, cutting up Serendipity in the process, only to die itself soon after. Left with little hints, Nabi decided to peek into the weave of faith to discern what had brought this plague upon these people. Shockingly, the darkness that was the rider, long tortured, losing its identity, grabs what could be described as Nabi's purest self. Cold, cruel darkness assaults the half-orc monk, almost leaving her drained of all life, just as she manages to pull back out from the weave.
Rattled and losing almost half of their party members, the group has beaten their foe but left in dire need of a long, looooong, rest.
4.th Adventure
4. Adventure
The group went to journey away from the front of war together with the walking armour and goblin wife to find more peaceful grounds. On their journey they found a woman who claimed to be the banished wife of the blue lord. Together they came across a small village of goblin who, despite logic and knowing better, chose Gromman as their deity of choice. Probably because it gave them an excuse to keep beating each other.
To take a break from their barbaric and underdeveloped cutlure, the heroes went to take a break in the beer storage, which turned out to be the long deserted basement of a tavern. In its interior, the group discovered further, secret sections which they explored. Those passeges soon revealed skeletons of long deceased strangers, a spear sticking out of the ground, and gold coins. Further inspection led the group to caves which had held a blue slime family and an icosahedron. Serendipity, curious about the magical artefact, touched it not soon after the slimes were exterminated which brought a, barely noticable, yet undiscovered (by Oxton) change.
At their return from their "quick" inspection of their discovered passages the group had met their previous comradees waiting outside, but with drastic changes.
The metal man, Sable, had rusted considerable, and showed signs of wear.
His wife, Khionk, looked much older and tired. Aged by more than ten years.
Rimvault, the ork shaman and former wife of the cruel king, is gone. Presumably long perished in the wars outside.
The goblin village has been razed more than five years ago by humans, and little is known about the world at its current time
The Journey So Far
1. Adventure :
Octon met Nabi, a friendly, female half orc monk he met at the city named ??? near a giant portal. The city had trouble fighting against an army of orc mercenaries though their leader seemed unable to lead his army as he was too distraught over the loss of his pet goat. At first Oxton and Nabi, who quickly became friends, did a number of odd jobs to earn some money for their traveling expenses, during one of which they discovered one of the local weapon and armour smiths to be an undead (although friendly and quirky). Afterwards they accepted a quest to find the mercenary leader's quest to find his goat, lured by the promise of high reward.
Both soon discovered a plot within the mercanary army to overthrow the current leader and their plan to feed the goat a potion which will cause it to explode in an attempt to hurt its master. Oxton and Naby, after thinking it over a lot, deceided against using the innocent goat as a sacrifice and promised to try otherwise. Maybe through luck, the goat had been quickly found, however upon returning it the distraught and cooperative mercenary leader turned stern and suspicious almost immediately, which made it impossible for the two to take him out in secrecy. As such they left only to hear a loud explosion once they covered an extensive distance.
Oxton crossed the portal and went on a pilgrimage through the lands on the other side of the portal.
2. Adventure :
Oxton, Serendipity, Varis and 2 others went out in search of an orc settlement/kingdom near the pioneer city OEFTENREITH behind the portal to prevent tragedy. Before they had been sent back in time by YALLIPSIS, a blue tiefling sorceress with godlike powers so they can prevent an orc attack that will raze the city. They only found a small village with terrified orcs that soon got attacked by an army of undead. The village was barely defended by their orc warriors and a powerful Orc warrior with magic powers named KRUNKZ. The army of undead belongs to a blue kingdom and evil lord named TRAGNOR, who is alledgedly immortal.
3 Adventure :
After getting sent back in time again by YILLIPSIS to prevent KRUNKZ from sacrificing his eyes for power to GROMMAN and suscept himself to eternal torment, and failing to do so, we got sent even further back in time.
This time, ending up in a backwood city in the north with VARIS, SERENDIPITY, CID, ???, isolated and alone by dead woods, the group went out and discovered a temple ruin gatherung massive amount of magic like a drain. Upon entering the ruins we encountered an abomination. The resulting fight, including undead and a lot of genius usage of spells, ended with VARIS almost dying. Sadly he got healed just in time, for which he was quite ungrateful for.
Further expedition discovered more undead in the ruins, slaughtered by a red half-dragon ZYLBODIN. A failed battle encounter, chess match and heartless, unjustified, unprovoked slaughter of a cute little bunny later by the monster half-dragon, he got dared to fight a trapped ogr undead in the first room.
He failed utterly like the little bastard he was and died.
Further expedition of the ruins let the group discover parts of an ancient language that could channel magic. Sadly said parts were lost almost immediately.
After that OXTON discover an artifact of GROMMAN which he destroyed as the heineous got tried hypnotising Oxtona nd insulted his goddess while the rest of the group fought... something over a hand mirror.
Shortly before we left the ruins we discovered a room with silver treasures and a magical artefact. Upon touching it, Nabi was given the opportunity to change fate, which she used to dethrone ???, the immortal ruler and never let him be crowned in the first place.
As we soon discovered, this resulted in a butterfly effect that caused the city we came from to be a non-human city under siege of humans from the south and the two kingdoms, the northern non-human on and the southern, human one to be at war with each other. By coincidence we also met two new travelers, one who appears to be a very tall goblin woman and another her dead husband who is a soul bound to an empty armour.
