Radiation

Magic radiation is a new type of radiation that didn’t exist in Florantis until the Magic Meteor passed by the planet, which caused the three progenitors flowers and many spores to grow from its debris. It is unique in that in can cause immediate affects on physical objects or in the visible and invisible spectrum of waves as well, but unlike most ionised radiation its damage is exceedingly small, but still causes changes in the atoms is passes through. The most crucial factor is that when a person is affected, they can then control this radiation. However, their minds limit it to protect itself from holding too much information, and so they can only affect things that their brain allows. For most their brain chooses something related to their bodies weakness that allowed the radiation to enter. Their subconscious chooses, so the person themselves does not get a conscious say in what they will be able to affect. Sometime a subconscious will choose to do something that is unrelated to this, and instead choose to focus on something that the person considers a passion. On rare occasions a mind can choose to affect multiple areas rather than just one, but it can be mentally and physically exhausting.

Endosymbiont and Fragmentation

Endosymbiont is a classification of symbiosis which is the interaction of two living organisms in close physical association where one organism resides inside of the other rather than outside of it. It is theorized that the reason for magical radiation being so different than other radiation is that it is accompanied by a microorganism that is naturally able to shield against the normal decay of radiation. It does this via fragmentation, a form of asexual reproduction, where the parent organism breaks into fragments (which is caused by the radiations decaying effects), and then each fragment is capable of developing into a new full-sized organism. The organisms chose to stay where the radiation was because it helped them to reproduce and gave them energy to sustain life. However, because ionized radiation was difficult to find, the organisms evolved in a way that they could invade and mutate other living species so that they could generate more radiation, and the then organisms stayed with those mutated beings and protected them from the effects of decay. The organism itself has physical mass that can fly/float but is small enough to be imperceptible to humans. With the organism’s ability to move freely and easily touch things and the energy and ability to alter atoms from the radiation, together they can change and manipulate the existing matter in the world.

Endocrine Signaling

The reason that the radiation and microorganisms enable enchanters and other mutated/infected beings of Florantis to actively cause affects on the worlds matter is because of endocrine signaling. The organism embeds itself into the body and mutates it in a way that lets it join in the bodies communication, specifically it uses the endocrine system (which is the chemical system responsible for hormone distribution). This is done so that it can send signals that will make the body produce its own radiation by amplifying naturally available materials (from the surrounding air and other ingested substances). Since it uses an existing system in the body and the organism is connected to it, the host is also able to use its own signals to direct the organisms to leave the body and subsequently the radiation to achieve its seemingly impossible effects known as magic.

Parasitic/Mutualistic/Commensalistic Nature

The organism is parasitic (benefit to the organism but harmful to host) to its host in some of these situations but is just as commonly mutualistic (beneficial to both organism and its host) or sometimes commensalistic (beneficial to the organism while the host is unaffected). The organism wishes for its host to live as long as possible, as it is what is helping it get the radiation it sustains itself on, and luckily it is able to nullify the radioactive decay on the hosts body using its own protective measures (fragmentation). However, since the organism wishes to create as much radiation as possible to support its growth and the human body is extremely capable of doing so, the body usually creates more radiation than organism can safely nullify, and as such the body and the organism have to come up with a solution to get rid of the excess radiation. Florantians call this process versur. This is where the distinction between being parasitic or mutualistic comes into consideration. Much like how the brain subconsciously chooses an affinity for an enchanter to be able to affect, the brain also subconsciously chooses how their versur will manifest, and that can beneficial, irrelevant, or actively destructive to the host. To clarify, in a mutualistic process, the host may suffer from an ailment, and the versur may use its excess energy to cure or mitigate that ailment. In a commensalistic process, the host does not gain any benefit from their versur, but it also doesn’t have any ill affects either. In a parasitic process, the versur has a negative affect on the host.
