Session 6: A Celebration of Life

General Summary

The crew fought the werewolf of Rudd Lamertink and defeated it in impressive time given his unexpected strength and speed. Meara finished it off by cutting off its head, and took it as a trophy. The captain of the guard ordered Justen Lamertink to give the crew the reward he originally offered for solving his cattle mutilation problem, and help transport the injured guards back to town. Before leaving the farm, they heard funeral bells for Rebecca ringing out at the temple.   Upon their return to Elta , the Lord Mayor thanked them again and announced that their tab at The Welcoming Maiden would be settled by the city. The crew proceeded to the temple and paid their final respects to Rebecca. While there, they learned that both and Johanna and Rebecca (posthumously) had been accepted as clerics of Nallula(religion).   When they returned to the Welcoming Maiden for lunch, word spread throughout town about their defeat of the werewolf, and the tavern began to overflow with people wanting to thank them as well as celebrate the life of Rebecca and Rudd. Zuko managed to find out that Rudd was well liked, and only began to act strange when he returned from his trip to Medno Kesena.   Octavia expressed concerns about being told that her future is a matter of destiny and not choice, and expressed the intention to avoid any such obligations if possible. Malcolm made one last attempt to woo Arget Ethyn by inviting her to dance, and succeeded, retiring to her personal room while the rest remained at the celebration. Meara, curious about the custom, attempted to dance as well, but found she had no skill for it. Ethed joined her and the the pair talked about the battle with the werewolf, Ethed's own past with adventuring, and Meara's memory loss. Ethed warned her to be careful who she tells about her predicament, as there is always someone looking to take advantage. The two left and spent the night together at The Fool's Purse.   Zuko entered the dance floor himself and attracted the attention of 3 local girls. Shortly after, he attracted their fathers and their dowries. Not wanting to be tied to the town, Zuko asked if any of the girls would be able to help him to his room, heavily implying he was only looking for one night of companionship. One accepted the offer and retired with him.   The following morning, Zuko awakened to the girl's father beating on his door, demanding he accept the dowry and her hand in marriage, as he had already spent the night with her. He prepared to sneak out of the window when the girl woke up and begged him to take her with him. He warned that the road ahead of him is dangerous and he would be unable to keep her safe. She reluctantly accepted and he repelled down the wall. On his way to hide in the cart, Meara spotted him and Zuko asked her to inform the rest of the crew that he would be waiting.   During breakfast, Malcolm received a letter by raven from Tidgrud. It informed that Tidgrud understood why Emmet was killed, and that his real name was Jesper Forsyth, a known criminal before he seemingly disappeared. It also warned that his body was missing from its grave since that morning, and one citizen claimed to have seen him crawl out. THe crew agreed that they should leave immediately in case Jesper was in fact alive, and was after them. The cart was brought around and Malcolm had some fun and Zuko's expense, calling the girl's father over for directions. The crew gave Zuko his hot breakfast which they had ordered on his behalf, and proceeded out of Elta, turning south.   Along the road, Zuko spotted a strange rock formation, and on closer investigation discovered a centuries abandoned cemetery, probably belonging to a long lost city-state of the Palhas Province region. That night, the crew made camp and took watch in shifts. During Zuko's watch, he heard a strage *tinking* sound, but was unable to find the source. Octavia took last watch, and the rest of the crew woke at dawn.   Shortly after waking, they realized that Octavia was not in sight. They thought for a moment that she had left on her own, but her possessions were still there, and there was evidence of a scuffle by the cart. Meara checked her silver tell, and it was at this point that Zuko realized it was the vibration of the silver tell that he had heard during his watch, just before Octavia took over. They followed drag marks to a spot of burned grass a short distance away. Next to the burnt crass there was a drawing in the sand. A skull encircled by blood drops, and a message resembling some of Jesper's (then known as Emmet) last words before his alleged death... "I Win"   @session
