Session 57: Fisher of Men

General Summary

A Plan is Made

7th of Spirende 22nd year of the Second Era
The Regulators made their contributions to the prison plan, discussing the magic items they wanted inside and whether they could be brought in with their personal effects, smuggled in after, or not until the last moment. The most notable suggestion was Zuko asking to smuggle in the dragon tooth they took from the Cult of Mantus. Malcolm (see: Session 37: Hands of Fate ). Malcolm  agreed it was a good idea but warned that it should be used to create chaos, not trusted to fight with them.
Before they left Fort Anexa, Ethed gave them a tour of the new layout ending on the new balcony that overlooked the bay. There they found Barros, the former personal guard to Jarl(rank:7d05acb8-6af0-4458-9025-2eefbd6d6be5) @[Rupert Wasser, now adorned in the armor of a knight of the The Holy Regulators. He explained that he was told by Alexandra Nordheim that if The Regulators had not stopped the Cult of Mantus from acquiring the final tablet piece, he would have died the night they had removed it form its vault. Since he was living a second life, he wanted to dedicate it to something bigger than one man, so the Jarl released him of his oath and he joined the Holy Regulators.

The Contract

The Regulators put some of their affairs in order and proceeded to the temporary mining town of Aberfaw. When they arrived, they immediately knew that something was wrong. The structures gave no sign of fireplaces going and the streets were deserted. Meara confirmed that thought the village is small there was more activity than this when she and Echo had been there the day before. They entered the village and found signs of spider like silk in vast quantities. While Malcolm was having flash backs to the incident Red Valley (see: Session 13: Red Valley Mines) Echo noticed a curtain in a nearby building was disturbed. Meara approached the building and found the same spider silk like excretion plastering the door shut, along with a man's shoe. She pulled the shoe out and it stuck to her armor, but they managed to get into the building. Inside they found a small alchemist's workshop, that seemed to operate on some sort of flammable air. They eventually convinced its occupant, Sonny Jepsen to come out of hiding. He explained that when the mine foreman learned about the cave fisher in the mine, he convinced the miners to kill the creature themselves to profit off its parts. Their plan failed and very few came back, but worse, the fisher came out that night and captured the survivors. Sonny tried to escape out of his back window when the Fisher went back into the mine, but he saw two unsavory looking people watching the town from the ridge above the mine. Meara realized all of this behavior was unnatural for a Cave Fisher, and it may be under the control of a humanoid, perhaps the two that were watching Sonny.
The party proceeded into the mines and easily followed the trail to large natural cave formation that intersected with the mine's lower levels. Barely crossing the threshold, Malcolm asked Meara to light up the room and as she cast the spell, they found the Cave Fisher dangling a strand of silk across the center of the room waiting for one of them to get stuck in it.
