Session 52: Road to Earsmoor

General Summary

Welcome to the Jungle

57th-59th of Wintercrest 22nd year of the Second Era   As the The Regulators, made their way to higher ground, they followed a stream to a large pool at the bottom of a cascade. Zuko determined following the cascade would be quicker than scaling the cliff on either side, but the party chose to use the flying carpet rather than swim across the pool. Malcolm notced as they flew over that the water was home to several schools of piranah.   Towards the end of their first day of travel, they began encountering pit traps. When they arrived at the entrance to a dried out river gorge, they decided to make camp inside to put distance between themselves and whoever was making the traps.   During their night in the gorge, Meara and Wulffric noticed movement in the distance. She roused the rest of the party and doused the campfire. A giant fey tortoise wander into view. Zuko recongized the species. They are noctornal and very territorial, however they usually wandered far during their waking hours and rarely returned to the same resting place, so they stayed hidden until it passed and returned to sleep.   The following day, the party was pestered by insects that left them somewhat distracted. They pushed straight through the day and just before deciding to take a rest, they found an old stone sign indicating a halfling settlement was at least at some time located slightly off their path ahead. They found a mostly ruined villiage with a few structures still standing. The buildings resembled classic halfling burrows but built from stone. Malcolm recognized a large structure in the distance to be the same temple he retrieved a tablet from before he became a fugative in Rum Lin.   Meara and Wulffric stayed on the road between the buildings while Malcolm and Zuko searched the buildings for anything uselful. Zuko found a magic map concealed by a playful riddle; once revealed it provided the easiest route to the palace of Earsmoor. Malcolm aquired a potion and taking it to Meara discovered it was a powerful bug repellant.   While Malcolm and Zuko continued to search, Wulffric allerted to and defended Meara from a surprise attack by a Sabertooth Jaguar. Malcolm did the most damage as her burst from the building and shot the jaguar at close range, but Meara finished it off. Meara field dressed the jaguar for dinner while the searching continued and the party rested for the evening and night in one of the structures.   The following day, they covered a surprising amount of ground in a short time before coming to an ancient bridge over a rushing river. The bridge was crumbling, but appeared strong enough to handle one person and their horse at a time. Zuko didn't trust it and took to the flying carpet, while Malcolm, Meara and Wulffric made their way over the bridge. Malcolm noticed while crossing that a gigantic clam was sitting at the bottom of the river near the bridge. As Wulffric crossed, he knocked loose a small piece of the bridge which hit the water. Shortly after the disturbance, the giant clam rose out of the water supported by 7 tendril like legs, and opened its shell to reveal rows of spiked teeth.   To Be Continued...
